My tooth hurts. I've had little flashes of owie for the past couple of weeks - maybe one or two a day. Today, it's more sustained. Not horrible but it could and likely will turn horrible at one point and it's Friday afternoon. Of course.

I finally decided to call the dentist and see if I could get an appointment for Monday. I could always cancel ... I got as far as the dentist's website. They close at 3 on Friday. It was 4 pm. Oh well. (This is a tooth that has been a problem for years. This same dentist looked at it a few years ago and said maybe a cap but likely an implant. Both options required lots of cash and multiple visits - I can deal with the former way better than the latter but no thanks to both. Unless I have to. I took two Ibuprofen and it's better so maybe...

Meanwhile The Smalls was on my lap well really sitting on my arms with my and under his butt and all of a sudden I felt something wet. I moved him and found kind of clear mucus looking stuff with tiny blood spots coming out of his butt. Not a lot but enough to get on me, my crocheting and the tissue I used to wipe the rest. I've never seen anything like it before. No smell too it at all. And, after I wiped his butt, it stopped all together. He was and is totally unphased by it. At least the vet is open on weekends if we need it.

When I put this blood spotted mucus together with your earlier post about Smalls throwing up, I think you do need to touch base with the vet. Individually, maybe nothing, but together could spell trouble. It's one of the reasons I could no longer care for a cat. Not only the energy cost but the vet costs. It would drive me insane to not take the furry child to the doc if needed because of cost. And I am very much hand to mouth. (Not that it is an issue because of the energy problem anyway).

I certainly hope Smalls is okay. I always feel so helpless when there is potentially illness and I can't explain it to the furry one or let him or her know we hope it will all be alright.

Good luck with everything.

Clear, blood-tinged mucus sounds like colitis, usually caused by them eating something that irritated the intestines/colon. I’ve found that in most cases with my cats and dog it resolves on it’s own in a few days. It’s usually accompanied by diarrhea. I’d give it until Monday and if it’s not better, or worse, the vet can give you meds for it.

My dentist doesn't work at all on Friday but I could probably get a 'script from him by phone.

However, one Monday after a weekend of something feeling *off* with a tooth I stopped in at 9:50 when I was done at the gym. Turned out he had 10 minutes before his next appointment to check it out and reassure me it was probably just a sinus infection and would go away on it's own. It did! I love everyone at my dentist's office.

I've never been hurt by a dentist so I have no fear of them.

OMG, alarming! I've never seen anything like the mucus either. Frantic Googling at least turned up no connection between that and FELV. Hopefully the mucus and the vomiting together mean he ate something that's irritated his digestive system.  Fingers crossed for both of you this weekend.

I wonder if he was napping alone earlier because his belly felt weird. Hopefully he got all of it out, whatever the weirdness was.

If your tooth ends up keeping you up at night, maybe you can get your hands on some dental wax until you can see a dentist. A lot of times the pain comes from an exposed nerve, and covering the nerve with some wax subsides the pain. It's not a long term solution, your tooth will only get worse with that method because it could trap in bacteria, but for short term, at least you can sleep at night... if it comes to that. Tooth pain is the worst.
