I like a simple Thanksgiving dinner but, because I don't do holiday stuff, I haven't had one in forever. Restaurants would rather do fancy Thanksgiving food plus they generally aren't thrilled at single diners and no leftovers or at least not much.

I've often thought of ordering up one of those pre-cooked read-to-heat-and-serve deals from a supermarket but they are always for 8 people or more. BUT, today I found a local market that's offering the basics - turkey, dressing, green beans, gravy mashed potatoes, rolls and pumpkin pie for 2. Perfect.

Dinner plus leftovers.

I ordered it up. The gym opens at 8 on Thanksgiving. I can swim and then swing by the market (which is on the way home from the pool and pick up my feast). I do hope it's good cause I might want to do it again at Christmas.

Sounds like a win! If I were you I would add one of those cheap cans of cranberry sauce:)

Ha, me too. I think that satisfying slurp when you manage to slide the knife perfectly down the side of the can and plop the whole thing out in one giant blob is so great :) My mom and I are the only ones who eat it in our family so we take turns bringing a can whenever we get together for a holiday. Last year she decided to be fancy and actually made homemade cranberry sauce (not jelly) and it just isn't the same.

No, I did not know!  I'm happy to hear about this, though, because sometimes I would like a little but I don't want to buy a whole can just for myself since I know I won't use it all. Problem solved.  Thank you!

Nice!! I was noticing that most of the grocery stores seem to have meals for 6-8. I was recently looking at where my step-mom and my nephew who lives with her could possibly buy a pre-cooked Thanksgiving dinner (so I could get them a gift card for it). The best I could find near them (they're out near Spokane) was that 6-8 serving dinner from Safeway, but I guess that just means they've got leftovers for the next week, which is about right, really. But it would have been nice to have a smaller option!

I like the most simple, traditional Thanksgiving dinner, too.. and it’s so hard to get!

Safeway used to sell half turkeys which was good if you wanted a turkey dinner for a small group (or one person w/ lots of leftovers). I like restaurants and I don't at all mind eating in one alone as long as when you first walk in and you say "one" they don't say "just one?" in that goddamn whiney voice. You know they think you're pathetic when you already told them you're on your own and they go "just one?" anyway. God that makes me mad.

Don't forget to put a slice of that cranberry jelly on your turkey sandwiches! I make dressing in a loaf pan so it slices and fits perfectly on a sandwich, too.

My boss and her husband order one of the supermarket dinners for six, and they have leftovers -- but that's pushing it! Your dinner for two sounds a lot more rational. I know you love divvying up portions, so you'll have some nice leftovers. :-)

If I weren't going to my cousins' place, I'd be tempted to get a turkey dinner to go from the great diner I eat at about weekly. Enjoy your feast!
