Humana

1. Sends me snail letter about a new benefit for COPD Medication Management. It says, in the letter, that the cost of my "maintenance inhaler" will be substantially lower than what I pay now.

There is no clue as to what they consider my maintenance inhaler. There is not info about how to enroll in the program or get more info.

2. I send a tweet out to @HumanaHelp asking for web link for more info. @HumanHelp says they need my name, phone number, email address and zip code to provide the information. I give them that information (which, I think is stupid). And they say they'll get back to me.

3. Then I get an email from Humana saying my case is closed and I should 'click here to view message'. I click here. I am taken to a website that demands I establish credentials to get in. So, I do. This, by the way, is the FOURTH Humana site I have to have credentials for to manage my fucking insurance.

The message says:

Good Afternoon Susan,

I am following up with you in regards to your message received through our social media account.

After reviewing your account, I can see that the COPD Medication Management program is available to you. You must enroll in the Program and participate in a series of educational phone consultations to receive information on covered and reduced priced inhaled medications. I’m so sorry that I am unable to provide any specific coverage or medication cost information. This information can only be provided through the Clinical team since they are trained in this area.

You will need to speak with the Humana Pharmacy Clinical Program team by calling 855-812-3737 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m., Eastern Standard Time Monday through Friday.

If you call outside these hours, then you can leave a message with your first and last name, phone number and Humana ID number to receive a call back from the Humana Pharmacy Clinical Program team.

Thank you for contacting Humana to receive guidance on your customer service issue. We have researched and resolved this matter or issue under case #1000122197028. Please save this number for your records in case any further assistance is needed by customer service.

If you have further questions, please call our Customer Care Department at 1-800-457-4708. If you are speech or hearing impaired, call 711.

Have a great day!

Sincerely,

Is there any way, any way at all that they could be less helpful about the new benefit?

All of your insurance-related stories really help to shed light on why health insurance costs so much in the US -- that level of bureaucracy can't come cheap!

It almost feels like they want to brag about offering these great things, while simultaneously making them inaccessible for most people thus saving them the cost of having to actually implement.

Health insurance overhead would be a hilarious parody, if not for the fact that it was the reality from which we need to get medical care. :/
