The vet just called and Biggie's surgery went well and he's awake and complaining. Whew. I was honestly getting a little worried that it was taking so long. But all is good. I had the option of parking him overnight or bringing him home. I figured he and me and The Smalls would all be happier if here were here. Cone and all. She wanted him to stay there a few hours so they could monitor him so I'm going at 7:30 to pick him up.

No stitches. They closed him up some other way - glue? I suggested velcro to be ready for next time. 14 cone days and then he'll have just a naked tummy to show for his exploits.

In a classic case of closing the barn door after the cow's gone out, I bought Biggie a pet insurance policy today. My sincere hope is that I have just thrown that money out the window and will never ever need the policy. I, of course, wish I had done this last October when I first discovered how much his penchant for foreign objects costs me.

I mentioned this to the vet and she said she was pretty sure they would consider another surgery for foreign object swallowing to be a pre-existing condition so they would not cover it. TILT! I wrote an email and asked about this. They are closed for the day now but I'll make sure to get an answer and refund if needed.

I did 20 minutes on the treadmill today total so I'm calling that a victory and taking the rest of the day off.

Poor Biggie! And you an your wallet! It probably was glue - I first saw that stuff used on my kid when we lived in El Salvador. The first time he needed stitches he was so uncontrollable that he nearly didn’t get his head sewed together. The next time, they Krazy glued him. It was so much easier!

I can't believe it happened again. You need to keep Biggie in a padded cell. Well -- make sure the padding isn't the kind he can chew, however.... 😏

β€œI suggested velcro to be ready for next time.”

Total LOL!

Glad he’s out. Glad he’s insured. If it’s not styrofoam, there’s always some other thing, and he’s using up his nine lives altogether too quickly.

It seems ridiculous to me that having previously swallowed an object could be classed as a pre-existing condition, but hey, it's an insurance company so I wouldn't put anything past them. Very glad to hear he made it through with no problems.

I laughed at the Velcro idea. Maybe you can just install a zipper?
