It's now 15-ish hours after the latest eating incident and Biggie is fine. He was sleeping here next to me and I woke him up and offered him a treat and he got up to eat it. I am going to go back to breathe right strips or nothing. No more chance taking here. Breathing while sleeping is over rated anyway.

I have had a thought, a couple of times recently, that this might be a time when Facebook could be helpful. Many things I'm interested in - knitting/crocheting/sewing all revolve around facebook groups. There's a piece of hardware I want sign up to beta test but you have to be on facebook to do it. So I really thought maybe I should just get off my high horse and login.

Then, I got my weekly digest from NextDoor. I usually just delete it but today I clicked through and read some of the posts from my neighbors. I got back up on my high horse PDQ. There are many reasons why I don't get a facebook account. And several of them are why that NextDoor digest is now marked 'unsubscribe'. I assume people aren't stupid and it makes me twitchy to learn that I am wrong.

If you need me, I'll be over here, by myself, with my head in the sand.

I’ve found some nice, friendly, snarky, non-political groups on FB. I belong to a snarky crafters group just for the comments, which are indeed snarky. I belong to a group for women over 60 & one for single women retiring alone. One group is for snark & support in this time of corona. I’ve also left a few groups when things get whiny. I’ve been surprised, really, the seriously nice women I’ve met because I KNOW that FB can be a pit of vipers with PMS who’ve run out of coffee & cigarettes....

NextDoor has some crazy folks, and I've had to mute a few of them. There's one woman who is constantly posting about "suspicious vehicles" and leaves absolutely useless descriptions of them like "type: car, two or four door color: dark". And it's not because of a crime that happened, but because the vehicle was "acting suspiciously." Um, ok. I've thought about looking up her address, driving by her house a bunch of times, and seeing if she posts about my suspicious vehicle.

Ohohohoho I am with you there! Mind you I live in UK and 49.5% of voters who voted selected Brexit...I now eye everyone with suspicion as they have 49.5% chance of being a *ucking moron. ( To non-Uk readers: this vote meant rich people ger richer, poor people get poorer and the country just imploads slowly and thats before CV-19) . A long term friend and very intelligent woman posted a rant about why the newly built hospital in London..needs a name... Really...try getting anything delivered my reply was....
"X is in Hospital
Where?
London
Where
The emergency one!"
Cue searching all hospitals with an A&E.

I thought "Nightingale hospital" was an excellent name psychologically, its historical (Florence Nighingale) and reassuring. Plus the hospital needs a reference name and code for all deliveries payroll, resources etc. At my University we were recording all ITU admissions to field hospitals in Afghanistan, trust me all admissions to this one will be recorded analysed and used for PhD research resource for decades of course a name is needed!

Muppet !

I am reminded of a phrase used frequently in "The West Wing"...namely do they "share my beliefs". Sadly not enough do.!
Be safe and glare at Biggy for being stoopid.

I think your decision to stay away from FB is a good one.
Facebook is a love/hate pain in the ass. I won’t even get into telling you how I was totally flamed for asking a simple question regarding a police phone number in my local Eastside group. And one person called me an old bastard living on family money. Wrong. On all accounts. ( Dumbass saw my id photo of Chuck Connors and assumed I was a guy) People can get downright vicious to people they know nothing about.

On the better side. I keep in touch with friends from high school and college that I never would have otherwise.

I have been known to disappear from FB for a month or more to take a break.

Now, I'm curious as to what your neighbors were saying that pissed you off.

I have decided that Facebook is useful. It brings me live-streamed music. I am not looking at anything else though - no "friends" and definitely no political stuff, just the pages of musicians and related organizations.
