I realized last night, in the dark while fighting for bed real estate with The Smalls, that my discomfort with the extended quarantine is all because of Amazon... and Safeway. Yesterday, I did some shopping on Amazon but got discouraged really fast when all the delivery dates were the end of April. I check Safeway and Amazon Fresh every day for delivery slots and find none.

I think I don't mind not going anywhere as long as I can get what I want brought to me.

And, then, this morning, the world opened up. Two things I wanted to buy on Amazon were available for delivery next week. On the wings of that little victory, I checked Safeway - OPEN DELIVERY SLOTS!!! and Amazon Fresh - OPEN DELIVERY SHOTS!!!

I was amused as how much better I felt instantly.

It is still before 9 and so walk time. My nose started bleeding a little bit ago so I'm kind of holding off until I can make sure that is fixed. Weird. A few years ago, I had nosebleeds quite a bit but none now for a really long time. I've been using a nasal spray for allergies. I'm sure stopping that now. I'm not sure it was working that well anyway.

So... walk and then I'm not sure what. Plenty of things to pick from on the Things To Do list.

If delivery times get wonky again, we've had good luck with instacart for groceries and other things from Fred Meyer or Safeway.

I know what you mean. I have been getting discouraged too. Especially with consistent orders we've had set up in Subscribe & Save since 2017. Having emails come in like this is very unsettling, when you are so used to having ship out for so long:

We get a lot of our household toiletries and dried goods through Amazon, so I am glad right now that we do have a little bit of wiggle room for such a delay. But seeing things like that does make me queasy and ill feeling right now.

((hugs)) Yikes, about the nose bleed.

It mostly depends on what it is (and how big it's shelf life is maybe?).
Like, for us a 2K jar of creamy peanut butter shipped, but Aaron's boxes of Kleenex are delayed. A big 8kg bag of dry cat food shipped, the wet cat food is delayed. Laundry pods are delayed, but dishwasher tabs shipped. etc.

I feel like i need to apologize to everyone who i said "don't worry about the lockdown, deliveries will keep going just fine!" Here in China they did. Here in China the middle class ordered in, and the working class jumped on mopeds to save the world. (See https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/20/business/china-coronavirus-wuhan-delivery.html and many others.)

But a friend in NYC tells me she has not been able to schedule any deliveries for days, she has no nearby grocery stores, and now she is running out of food with nowhere to find it. That's really worrying to me.

I am definitely the same. If I could just be sure everything would be delivered to me in a timely fashion, I would have no problem with any of this at all...

When I was thinking about this more realistically though, especially in the case of the baby formula, which is my biggest concern, I was realizing that the workers who make the formula, who must be in a factory somewhere, need to social distance also, and some of them probably can't risk going in at all, so production must be slower, and then you've got to disinfect everything before any delivery person can touch it, and so the whole process has to be slowed down a lot... So the slowdown maybe isn't jut because other obnoxious people have stockpiled my baby formula, but might actually be keeping more people a little bit safer,

so maybe it's alright...

I had to make several substitutions on my Amazon subscription; still not sure how that's going to work out in the future. Kind of weird shopping by delivery date rather than price.

You all make me grateful that I can still go to the grocery store. They even have Old People (55 and up!) hours every morning. I can't imagine relying upon having it delivered.
