The grocery pickup was fabulous. Easy breazy. Rolled up and the guy rolled out with the goods.

Driving through town was all kinds of weird. We have a lot of 5 street intersections with sequential lights - n/s goes left then n/s goes right then n/s goes straight, then e/w goes left, etc. When traffic is normal, you are entertained by watching the cars go by. When there are no cars, the traffic light takes several years to turn green. There is nothing nothing nothing longer. Christmas comes sooner. And I was not in a hurry.

I got home to discover that one of the things I really wanted, eggs. Was not included. AND to add insult to injury, instead of Egg Beaters, they gave me Egg White Beaters. yeah, no. No Spam. No cream. No country pork ribs. Massive sad face.

I think I can get eggs at the Japanese grocery across the way. They have senior hours from 8-9 every day. I think I'm going to brave it and go over there this week and see if I can score some.

I did get on chat and get a refund for those creepy and expensive egg whites. I mean that's like egg without the egg. Ugh.

They double bagged everything so my paper bag problem just got worse. But, overall, I'm not unhappy with the experience. And my car started up right away happily ... I am going to need gas, but at this pace, I probably have enough to last til Thanksgiving.

I don't know if you have an Aldi near you, but ours had eggs.

I can't believe that. No eggs?? What is this world coming to?

I wish I could just email you some eggs - ours are produced locally and I currently have an 18 egg backlog - I am going to have to do some egg based dinners this week.

Hello!
Do you have freezer space for however many quiches? Cheesecakes? Challah? Hootsla/egg bread/bread pudding? Takes a while to make enough to use up an 18-egg backlog, but what about crêpes? What about Chinese-style crêpes which if memory serves are pretty much just thin "pancakes" of cooked beaten eggs? A sauté of bitter greens with eggs, onion and perhaps some garlic? Muffins? Quick breads? Hard-cook some of your eggs for garnishes or to use as appetizers or sides?

Hello! How nice to meet you! What nice ideas.

Currently I am having poached egg on toast for my lunches most days, there are pancakes on the menu for later in the week, and there will be a Spanish Tortilla for us both, too - there are new potatoes in the veg. tray, chopped peppers and onions in the freezer, and chorizo that needs eating up in the fridge!

I would usually bake a little more, but I also usually have one or two growing kids here 3 days a week, and family and friends to pass it on to - as there are only the two of us I am resisting, but there may well be sticky gingerbread or banana cake this week - half to eat and half to freeze for next week.

And your meals and meal plans sound lovely!
I often find for myself that throwing around a few suggestions or ideas will stimulate the meal-planning part of my imagination when I'm stuck for an idea for something to cook, which is most likely why I offer that as "help" to others.

I'd love to bake more, but have so few folks with whom to share, you know?

Is it all right to ask which is the small island? If I had just one guess, based on your userpic coupled with your name, I'd say NZ, south island.

I would have been in there throwing out ideas too if we had been the other way around :)

No - a much smaller island a long way from NZ - although a lot of people from my island emigrated there in the last couple of centuries - we tend to be travellers!

I come from the Isle-of-Man. Your user name would imply that you are a fellow Gael, but in case you are a long way from your roots I will explain a little more! If you look at a map of the British Isles, or look on Google Earth, you will see a small island that sits right in the middle of the Irish Sea - equi-distant between England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales - that is us. A map of the United Kingdom, if properly drawn, will not show us as we are not part of the UK. Our island is one of the oldest democracies in the world - we celebrated the millennium of our Government, the Tynwald, in 1979. We are now, officially, a Crown Dependency, so the Queen is our head of State, with the title Lord of Man, but we have our own government, judiciary, laws and so on.

My username comes from a family joke to do with my poor coordination - my actual name is a variant on your Mairi - Manx Galic sounds very like Scots Gaelic, but is written down very differently.

This is probably more than you wanted to know!

Where are you?

I agree with [livejournal.com profile] susandennis: fascinating! And I, too, thank you for the information which was not too much at all!

I'm in the State of Ohio, in the United States of America.

Emotionally, I'm very close to my roots (Scotland); time-wise I'm close as British, Scottish, Irish and Gaelic peoples reckon it (less than two-hundred years), still close. In statute miles, especially in this modern age, close, too.

A good few Manx people emigrated to Ohio as well - you may well have Manx blood too :)

Could be that I have!

To the best of my limited knowledge, however, Man hasn't been mentioned. Er, so far.

Yes, so very many lights! There's a really steep hill I noticed close to the Space Needle and when you look down it towards the water it's just lightslightslightslightslights all the way down. And lengthy lights too, as you say. Not inconvenient for a tourist as it allowed me to keep close tabs on where I was, but massively annoying, I would imagine, if you're a local.

Eggs are always out here. Last weekend I saw someone with eggs while I was shopping, but when I got there, there were just broken ones at the bottom of the box. Still, it’s been the only thing I couldn’t get, so I can’t really complain.
