Washington State's governor just laid it all out for us.

Our stay at home is in place until May 31. And we are not yet all the way into Phase 1 yet. But, he says we could be by May 15.

He says there will be 2 to 3 weeks in a phase. So say we hit Phase 1 on May 15, then Phase 2 will happen towards the middle of June and so it will be July before I get to swim again and August before I can go to a Mariner game.

Moving from phase to phase is number dependent. He outlined what numbers of cases/deaths have to meet for how long before we move to a phase. It's pretty darned straightforward and logical.

Plus he said that other counties - those in the middle of the state who are in better virus shape than those in the more populated areas - will likely be able to move through the phases more quickly.

It all makes sense to me and I am very impressed with his plan. I'm sure glad I live here.

On the other hand, Seattle's mayor is sounding like phase 4 will not be here in Seattle this year. I don't have the same respect for her that I do for the governor but she is the mayor.

This does seem quite specific and logical. I’m happy that museums are in phase 3, and note they don’t have the capacity limits that bars and restaurants are given. It will be interesting to see how these reopening influence other areas in their own reopening, as states and cities will share with and borrow from each other.

I watched Frontline last night, episode “A Tale of Two Washingtons,” and I was impressed with how Washington State has gone about things. This looks sound and sets the standard.

At least you have smart officials, ours refused to issue stay at home orders and has decided to open stuff up starting today. Her nickname is Kim Reaper...

You beat me posting by 10 minutes I think.
I am both understanding and throwing a tantrum.

Smart - NZ has had a four-level alert system right from the beginning and it reduces uncertainty and makes sure everyone is on the same page. We're currently in "Threedom", which to be honest isn't all that free, but much to the relief of many it means you can get takeaways again. As a high-risk person though, as with your Phase 1 I ain't getting out until Alert Level 1.

Indiana's got a similar five-stage program. The state as a whole is is in Stage 1, and will move to Stage 2 on Sunday, except for three counties. Marion (Indianapolis) and Lake (Gary, Merrillville, etc) Counties will trail by one week, and Cass County by two (they just had a big outbreak at a meatpacking plant in Logansport). If things go as planned, each stage should last about two weeks and we should be back to something resembling normal by Fourth of July weekend. However, it's pretty clear that it's not going to be in time for Indiana Comic Con's new dates to go as planned, so we now have the suspense of waiting to find out whether they'll try to get new dates later this year (with possible conflicts with other, smaller shows), or just roll everything over to next year.

In some ways just waiting to next year would be good for us, since it will (hopefully) give people time to recover from the economic blow of an extended period of enforced idleness, which for many have meant either no paychecks or greatly reduced ones -- or having to spend all one's vacation days to maintain income, leaving no time off for frivolities like conventions. OTOH, it will mean $$$$ of working capital tied up for over a year, and that much longer before our first convention of the year, which makes finances awkward when our attempts to pivot to online sales are determinedly falling flat on their faces.

It makes sense that some counties might be able to reopen sooner...our county only had 2 confirmed cases and no deaths, despite a decent level of testing.

That's the most detailed plan I've seen.
Hope it works as it could be a blueprint for other states!

I a grateful for our governor, too. If I lived in a state that didn't offer a thoughtful process for keeping people safe, I'm not sure what I'd do.

I am worried about those with no income. I just hope we can move through these stages smoothly and safely.

This looks similar to our plan in California. I’m glad our neighboring states are working together on the plans.
