The Prodigal Boyfriend Returns

Yes. He was back at his post this morning. A smile and a wave. Just like old times. I thought about chastising him for leaving me in the lurch for two days but I decided to just rejoice in his return instead.

I got an email update from the clinic where my doctors are today. It had the usual waste of words about Covid-19 blah blah blah but it did mention they were starting elective surgeries on May 18. I'm hoping this means I can get an eye appointment soon-ish. I could call and ask. And I might.

Today's project is to find another bank. I recently moved my accounts from Capital One to Simple. Capital One has pissed me off for a variety of reasons. And there's a lot to like about Simple. One big thing was that it had a higher interest rate than Capital One. Until they dropped that interest rate this week. And other problems. So shopping again. I have a great credit union account that I've had for a long time. But, they don't pay squat for interest.

I need to do some research and rethink how I want to move funds around. To that's today's project.

Oh and also I need to find a new book. The one I started a couple of days ago just is not getting the job done.

At least I don't have Mother's Day to worry about. Since I am not one and mine is now long dead, contrary to what my email, twitter, instagram and even LJ thinks, I do not have to think about it, worry about it, get creative about it or even consider it. Sunday will be just another 24 hours in the land of the killer virus. Oh, wait, no... Sunday will bring another episode of Billions!

Along that line, I tried, again, last night to lock into Succession. People keep comparing it to Billions and man, except, they both have money as one of the plot lines, there is nothing to compare. Succession has absolutely no characters that are even interesting, bad dialog and lots of long stretches of video shot in the dark. Billions has fabulous characters - even the bad guys are fun and interesting - snappy dialog and lots to look at.

My brother reports that Homeland is good and I haven't seen any of it so ... next up...

But, first, I need to get dressed.

It has a Canadian URL so I'm not even sure I could use it legally since I'm in the United States, but, also, it does not pay enough interest. Thanks for the idea, tho.

We were looking at banks not too long ago, and there was a Discover Bank (https://www.discover.com/online-banking/savings-account/) that had pretty good interest rates... I never got around to moving anything though. Maybe some day

I actually have a (long dormant) account there that I'd forgotten about. Thanks for the reminder. Still not high enough interest rate for me. I'm looking for minimum 1.5 :) so picky

I still have my main liquid savings at capital one, because it was ING when I got the account a million years ago, and I am pretty sure the interest rate was over 2! It's so bad there now though. It's so hard to get any interest anymore.

DITTO about ING. They were so great. They even had an office and an ATM across the street.

But, it was Capital One's ashattery that started me on this now long journey to find a new bank. It is hard. And, actually, on closer inspection, your Discover tip may be more appealing than first glance. It's moved up on the list - the interest rate isn't fab but the rest of the package is pretty excellent and I do love their customer service. I've had a Discover card for more than 30 years.

Ok, here's a HUGE Discover advantage. I just called them to ask a question. 3 rings and I was talking to a real person. 2 mins later, I had my answer. I'm thinking that worth a whole lot these days - easy access to answers.

Just finished the first season of Homeland and I just thought it was riveting. It is approaching "The Wire" level. If it keeps up, a masterpiece. Claire Danes absolutely inhabits her character. Either she is truly bipolar or she's hung out a lot with someone who is. And, of course, Mandy Patinkin is better than I ever think he's going to be. And, like The Wire, the story changes over time with only a few threads connecting the seasons.
Starting Season 2 today.

oh crap. I forgot about the Mandy Patinkin situation. I really do not like him in anything. I'm going to have to get over that, I guess. I love that this has so many seasons in the can. replacing baseball games is just tough.

Funny thing is I don't like him in interviews, the real Mandy, but he just has great acting timing and he's really good in this. Just the right level of engagement in the scenes. The show stealer is Claire, though, and for the first season Damian Lewis.

It was fantastic at the beginning, but I think it ran too long. I couldn't even get through the second to last series, but I'm going to give the last one a try. Enjoy the early days!

I have tried repeatedly to get into Succession and never make it past 2 episodes. I will just assume that everyone who keep saying it's the best ever thing on TV has no idea what they are talking about.

Homeland is pretty solid. The 3rd season sort of goes off-track, and a lot of people dropped it then, but it regains its form after that (although some weren't that keen on season 5 either). Haven't watched the final season yet -- was waiting for all the episodes to become available.

1.5% is asking a lot these days. Ours have completely gone down the toilet in the past few months. Have you looked at Ally?

Yes, I did look at Ally but it doesn't have everything I need. FYI, I'm probably going to settle for 1.4% and be happy about it.
