I had an LJ 'friend' of long standing leave an insulting comment to one of my entries today. I should have deleted it but, instead, snarked right back and that drew an even more insulting reply - anonymous, of course.

I'm spending no more time or energy on this. I deleted the thread.

This is my journal. It's my record of my life as I see it. I'm happy to have you read it if you want. And I love comments. Respectful comments. If you want to leave respectful constructive criticism, that's fine. I love respectful suggestions.

But, insults and, really any comments I don't like will just be deleted.

good on you for just deleting. I have a friend who regularly leaves snark on my FB. I just delete his comments and go on with my life. He's happy he got his snark out and I'm happy I don't have to deal with it. Best of all, he seems to have come to understand this and rarely comments anymore.

Good for you for deleting the comments in your journal that you aren't a fan of, because you are right, your journal is for you for how you see life for you and you are allowed to have comments that are respectful and nice or even just relevant to what you post about to read and reply to.

That’s exactly how I feel about my LJ. And the best way to stop out-of-place comments IS to ignore them. I’ve only gotten a few, but God, so fucking annoying. I do wish I had caught the thread though lol. Good riddance!

I read from afar and don't often comment on social media. Just want to let you know I found your journal last year by accident and wrote to you then. I love reading all of your posts. We are in the same age bracket, love cats, and although our lives are a little different...my mother and husband are here, your thoughts on life are inspiring to me. I have come to the unfortunate conclusion that, no matter what kind of social media you are on, the a-holes who want to cause trouble will be there. I just ignore them. Or block them. Or report them. Or all of the above.
