A mere few hours ago, I was snarking about all those people crowded together downtown in a pandemic.

Now they have literally torn up downtown. The inventory that was in the Old Navy store is now outside on the sidewalk. Store after store with windows smashed in and contents looted. Police cars set on fire. The Mayor issued a 5 pm curfew and as of now - 7 pm they are still going at it downtown. Stealing cheese cake from the cheese cake factory - a white woman wearing a mask, stealing a fucking cheese cake.

I flipped from channel to channel watching it until I couldn't stand it any more. It must be terrifying for the people who live down there. It's about an mile from here.

And all this in the pouring rain.

I'm hoping for that rain to stop because my maybe leak is actually a leak and it's dripping down nice and steadily into my collection bowl. I called my neighbor upstairs to see if maybe he had a clue and, he absolutely did. He described the location of a crack that they have patched and repatched several times since he bought the place. The location is exactly where my drip is. So, at least we don't have to spend 2 years looking for the source of the leak like last time. I think it's coming down through a screw hole that's holding up my blinds. So far I cannot see any dry wall damage. I managed to get the blinds nudged out of the way (it's the first time I ever used that 'down from the top' feature - quite handy) so maybe they won't get hurt. If the rain stops soon-ish, maybe I can sneak by without damage.

And thankgod my upstairs neighbor is such a great guy.

Now I think I'm going to watch some junk tv.

We are under a city-wide curfew from 10pm-6am.

ALL downtown streets are closed except to those who have proof that they are going to/coming from work (work ID required) as well as police, fire, EMT, hospital personnel (we have 2 large hospitals downtown). Anyone on any street in the city after 10pm will be stopped by police.

The governor’s office & the mayor’s office got reliable intel that outside gangs are “visiting” the city with the express purpose of turning peaceful protests into riots....and getting TV coverage.

I’m not certain, but this may be the first curfew I’ve seen since I moved here in 1985. (Covid-19 stay-at-home orders not counting).

I picked Nightsky up at SeaTac today about 4:00. As we drove back to Tacoma, police car after police car zoomed north, lights and siren going. We passed at least 12 police cars.

And it was no visibility, pouring rain. Sucked.

It sounded like it was a bit north of you, but I worried.

Take care.

So in this situation, will you each have to talk to your homeowner's insurance and get it handled separately or do you somehow have a way to work together?

That rain was really bad. I was at work, and our roof started leaking in the refrigerator/storage room. I had to call my boss so he could come in and check it out. Then the handy man came to check it out and turned it into a bigger mess. On my walk home from work, I stopped at the park to look at downtown. It looked so peaceful from Magnolia. No sign of what was going on just a few miles away.

Here in Indianapolis, the downtown has been declared unsafe by the police as a result of the rioting and vandalism. My husband, who used to work for the state department of health, thinks that the historic plaque at the entrance of their office building may have been defaced or stolen. This plaque was brought from the old building, and may have been created in the 1800's. It can't be replaced.

So far things are calm out here beyond 465, but I've heard the state police have set up roadblocks on 70 and 65 to keep people from going downtown. I just hope it doesn't result in the unrest being pushed out here into these neighborhoods.

I'm glad you mentioned this. I just checked the Terre Haute news and found this:

I had no idea we'd had this going on in my little town as well!

I have been resisting the temptation to comment, but I am appalled. This could be an opportunity for a popular uprising like the pushes for democracy in the various Arab Spring movements, and others, but the wanton destruction undermines the message. This is not the civil right movement of Martin Luther King and ultimately will do nothing to improve the situation.

I've seen indications (whose accuracy I cannot vouch for) that some of the looting and destruction in Minneapolis has been the work of out-of-state white supremacists hoping to spark aq "race war". Don't know if this is happening elsewhere.

I'm so sad Seattle is going through this, too. I won't go on; i know you're well informed. It's just bad that original message of justice being done has been obscured by opportunistic crime from people hijacking and shifting the narrative away from the justified rage over George Floyd' brutal, senseless killing.
