Ok now only scummy on the inside

I've done my chores and had a shower and I feel much better on the outside but still pretty stupid on the inside. On the one hand, I'm an old lady and this is such an old lady stupid thing to do. On the same hand, I do not need the money immediately to put food on the table. If I never see it, it will be a very expensive penalty for being stupid. On the other hand, yeah, I got nuthin.

And since I'm so loosey goosey about money today, I just ordered a poke bowl for lunch. It is from the place that makes them big enough for two meals so it will be lunch and dinner.

Interestingly, this place has two locations. I went to one and they said the delivery fee was $7.50. Ouch! The bowl was $12. I went to the other place and the bowl was $13 but the delivery fee was only $6. Same owners, same stuff. I'm honestly and incongruously happier paying more for the food than delivery.

I have laundry started. It's a sunny day but still cool so far. Doesn't matter. I'm not going anywhere and if the sun gets in here I'll fight it back with the blinds.

Trying not to do anything else really stupid today... tomorrow, no promises.

It's weird, probably doing delivery is a more thankless job than cooking, especially in places with bad weather. The delivery drivers here work through freakin typhoons, wearing little more than flip-flops and a poncho, soggily hauling your food up the stairs. And they earn about us$1 per delivery for their efforts. Commercial kitchens aren't fun places either, but you're probably less likely to get run over or struck by lightning.

On the other hand, i always feel unreasonably cheated if the delivery costs more than about 10-15% of the food. In other countries this always resulted in me ordering way too much food to try make it "worthwhile".

Interesting take. I figure the delivery money as well as the food money goes right to the restaurant. The delivery folks get the tip. So, of course, I always overtip. (Also, most of our delivery situations is that the drivers chose their trips and, according to reddit conversations, they pick by the size of the tip.)

Oh man, I forgot about tipping. That is one aspect of North American culture I am not going to enjoy coming back to at all. The price should just be the price, I hate all this weird guessing about what "should" be the price. I guess it's fair that a driver won't take an order with a low tip, but if they're that desperate for a few extra dollars the base pay has got to be shamefully low.

I'm not entirely sure some of them get any base pay. If they do, it is a pittance. And, yeah, welcome back to tipping. It still sucks.
