So Christian came and we are so on the same page. He absolutely gets it. Nothing fancy. Just tub out, walk in shower in. He suggested that he look into Bath Fitters to do the work. I think that's perfect. They advertise 1 day so even maybe my bathroom won't be a mess forever. He already has a call into them and he's going to follow up.

I had told him I wanted a bench that unfolded from the wall and he suggested that instead of that, we just get a stool - fancy or not - which sounds perfectly reasonable. I'm not sure why I wanted that wall bit anyway.

He measured, we chatted. I told him I also wanted him to take care of the HOA end of things and he said, no problem. I'm jazzed. And ready.

I've used those fold-out bench things before at the swanky hotels. They look nice, and they'll do, but the slats dig into your ass after a few minutes, and if you lean against the back wall, it feels like you're going to slide off the seat. Plus, they always felt like they could drop at any time, and I'm super skinny. It might be worse if you're bigger.

Will the stool be built in or just a removable/portable kind that you purchase separately?

Bath Fitters is a perfect solution. We did that a few years ago, and have never regretted it. We had the moulded seat put in, and that’s the one thing we regret. Its pretty much useless. We have a stool from a Disabilities Aids place, and it does the job splendidly. That’s what they were designed to do.

We just used bathfitters to fix our bathtub. We did not turn it into just a shower, since Jasper needs baths, but they were great! I hope that it goes smoothly.

Just one thing about the stool - hopefully there are special non slip ones. I bought a plastic stool to use after some surgery on the shower and I was surprised how little grip it had on the tile. It was a death trap and I chucked it out without using it.

We used Bathfitters for our walk-in shower -- they did a great job.

We've been using a stool for years; works fine.
