Lately, when I dream, I have an extra layer of frustration. The people in my dreams are not wearing masks! Not only is it illegal here in the state of Washington but also I do not want to get or spread a dream case of COVID-19. I need to those dream people to mask up!

Of course, I'm not wearing one either when I sleep so there's some swiss cheese logic to all of this.

There are some interesting things that happen to your body when you get old. In addition to the wrinkles. One is that you start growing weird stuff on your skin. Warts and moles and wart/moles and skin tags and all kinds of stuff. Plus your skin dries out extra fast and extra dry. At least this is my case. It's lovely. Not. They are all itching this morning. I need to take a shower and get creamed.

It is cool enough this morning to have the door open and the air conditioner off. On the down side, somebody's doing something nearby with an industrial chain saw. Lovely.

It is lovely to realize that we are not that far away from the day when I can pack up the air conditioner and put it back into it's winter storage spot. When I was growing up, Summer lasted until at least Halloween. It was not unusual to still be swimming outside (in unheated pools*) until the first week in November. I never ever ever am not grateful for Seattle's cool Septembers. It does look like it's going to heat up again later this week but maybe not too much.

*I was a full blown adult when I first heard about heating a swimming pool. I did not believe it. Why in fuck would someone heat the water in a swimming pool. We used to put a giant ice block in ours. I did not have an internet to check when people were pulling my leg so I limped a lot.

I dropped off the Pixel 4 at the post office on Friday. They said it would get there Wednesday. Today, the tracking number says it's out for delivery! They website says I should be paid in 2 days. I'll be glad to get that behind me.

Today's baseball game is at 1 which is just handy for me. Tomorrow we're scheduled to play Oakland but... Oakland's had to cancel games because of positive cornovirus tests. Right now the game is still on but...

I'm knee deep in crocheting a fun cardigan pattern. Today I need to sew it together before I can see how much more I need to do on it. For sure I need to add pockets. Nice baseball crocheting.

But first that shower and lotion before I just itch to death.

Itching is one of my primary issues also. I stopped taking Losartan when I read that itching was a side effect. That helped a lot. I already take Metoprolol which controls my BP just fine.

But, yeah, all the moles and skin tags. I have about once a year one skin tag that decides to fall off after going through a very painful dying process. Usually the skin tag is in a place that is allergic to adhesive (on my side under my arm, for instance) so no bandaid. I found Skin Tag Treatment patch by Skin Science and now ALWAYS have them on hand. They have stuff in them that chops down the pain and advances the dropping off part.

Interesting. I take both Losartan and Metoprolol (suddenly a few years ago, the Atenolol I had been taking for almost 20 years stopped being sufficient), and I haven't noticed the itching problem. (I don't usually seem to experience the side effects described for most medications, although my brief stint on Lisinopril did have to be aborted because of chronic coughing, which is apparently a common effect.)

Yeah, I got switched from Atenolol to Metoprolol (both beta-blockers) amid all the other changes.

I was on Losartan (after getting off Lisinopril... cough) and due to Afib got involved with a Cardiologist who decided my pulse was too high (it was and had been for a while) so she put me on Metoprolol and kind of intimated I could stop the Losartan if I wanted. I did not until my itching got really bad once and I decided to stop the Losartan and take my BP several times a day. My BP never changed and remains low to this day but the itching went away.
So I'm happy, one less med to take, always a plus, and most of my itching has gone. I'd been taking Benedril at night to keep the itching down so really stopped two drugs.

I grew up in Kenosha, WI (um, yeah...) which is on Lake Michigan. The water temperature wouldn't hit 60 until mid-August. Swimming meant cold water! Friends with pools had warmer water just because a pool is smaller than Lake Michigan and the sun heats it up faster. That was a luxury, but the thought of actually heating pool water never entered anyone's mind.

If I were given the choice of swimming in a lake or a pool I'd choose the lake. I know people that wouldn't stick a toe in lake water. There are fish in there!

Neighbors of ours (when I was a kid) vacationed in Maine during the summer and according to the lady of that household, most days the ocean just wasn't warm enough to be endured more than ten or fifteen minutes.
(Still when I was a kid), we visited a college friend of my mom's just north of Chicago and we kids were allowed to put our little tootsies into Lake Michigan and I'll tell anyone: made the ankles ache almost immediately! This was in August, because that's when Dad got his vacation time.
Totally understand about cold water! And, that at the time no one even dreamed of heating a swimming pool. If the water was cold, it was cold, and the sun warmed it or it didn't.

Here in Maine you want to swim when high tide is around 2pm on a sunny day. That way, the water has been coming in over the sun-warmed rocks and is considerably warmer than it would be otherwise.

Otherwise, it's almost always too cold to swim in.

I've not a doubt!

Love your screen name/userID! And the fact that you've got Chioggia di Bassano beets as your userpic. Is there a story?

Here in Gloucester, MA, the water is generally too cold for me until late July, although it hasn't been as cold i recent years (surprise!). It used to be front-page news in the local paper if the ocean temperature exceeded 70F at any Gloucester beach.

We haven't been in the water at all this year; we haven't felt like risking the beach. Now that it's September, that option is probably out anyway (although there was one year we had a hot spell right after Labor Day and the water was comfortable for most of September, whereas the crowds were greatly diminished).

I have no doubt! :^)

When we kids got a bit older, our family shared a rented house on the Jersey shore (on Long Beach Island, actually) with an uncle and aunt and their family. We used to note the regular and predictable "summer weekenders" who'd show up on the weekends (well, naturally) and we were always relieved when they'd leave Sunday afternoons so their breadwinner could be back in the office Monday mornings.

From an older adult perspective, that was rather mean-spirited of us, no? Not that we gave anyone a hard time---ever. We never did. Just grumbled in private. I believe I can sympathize with your appreciation of the greatly diminished crowds.

If you stuck your hand in my pool this summer, it would have felt like an ice cube. That flippen thing wouldn't warm up. I don't need a sauna but, a temperature comparable to the lake would have been nice.

I've always had really dry skin, I'm not looking forward to it getting worse as I get older. Maybe they'll invent a moisturizer that goes through the showerhead. Of course, the tub would be extra treacherous then.

Yay that your Pixel is moving along! My USPS package I mailed on 9/30 is still stuck in limbo.

It's not an old people thing for me, I've had about a zillion moles since I was a little kid.
The only corona-related dreams I have are about zombies. Call me Sigmunda, but I have this theory that fear of zombies is largely a metaphor for fear of disease, especially contagious disease.

A couple of years ago you wrote about a lotion you discovered that was terrific at keeping you from itching. I wrote it down, bought some and liked it; but, have no idea what the brand was. I am currently using VaniCream. Does that sound familiar?

I’m so glad you made the observation about itching. It’s been driving me crazy, but when I mention it, I just get the blankest of stares. Now I know I’m not alone!
