Alexa just apologized for something I couldn't understand - out of the blue. I could look up what she said and why she said it but I think I'll just accept her apology and move on.

I decided to cancel my Fitbit pre-order and re-order using a different credit card. Canceling was easy. I reordered and got no confirmation email. After about an hour I saw no sign (and their website has no path from 'account' to orders which is very weird). So I got into Chat and got a very nice, no shit CSR who verified that there was no sign of my order and my actual order number was not in their system. I should order again. WTF?

So I copied the chat session for backup and ordered again. Only this time I screwed up the order. AND there was no cancel button on the order status page. Sigh. And chat was not not available. So I called. The nice woman canceled my order but it still showed as 'live' to me so I asked her for an email confirmation that it was canceled and she sent it quite quickly which I thought was nice.

Then I re-re-reordered and this time got it right. Yeah. Still not shipping til the end of the month.

Then I took a load of stuff down to the dumpster. I managed to get back up here with no coughing so I'm declaring a win.

I decided to get doordash for lunch. I looked at some options and finally settled and put together an order for lunch and dinner. $25 worth of food. With taxes, tip and special seattle fees, the final price was $50. NFW. If you charge me $45 for food and $5 for tip, I'd honestly probably go for it. but I just cannot bring myself to pay $25 in fees. It makes no sense, I know but I have left over chicken salad which will be fine. Thanks.

I just saw a tweet from my internet and cable company that wildfires were causing interruptions for some of their Oregon customers. It's one thing to burn shit but you start messing with my internet and cable tv and things are going to get ugly.

For a while I was paying for the "unlimited" plan with Postmates, which means no delivery fee, but they still tack on all of those extra fees and raise the prices. For me and my husband, if I order delivery (which I do way too often), it'll often be $30 - $40 for two meals from McDonald's or something, which would cost me maybe $15 - $20 if I drove to the store, still a little much but okay. I stopped paying for the unlimited plan because I figured it would get me to order less but now I'm just used to spending a lot of money on delivery! I'm getting better about cooking, though. :)

I once asked Alexa about her compatibility with Siri. It must have offended her because, out of the blue she said "I've learned a new trick, would you like to see it?" I reluctantly said yes. She said "ask me a question" and when I did, she made a fart noise. When I said "stop that" she did it again. For the next five minutes or so anything I said something to her she made the fart noise. She doesn't realize how close she came to a close encounter with a baseball bat.

All the fees from the food and grocery delivery services blow my mind, especially when you realize the grocery prices themselves are inflated from what you would pay at the store! Sometimes a few cents per item, sometimes a pretty hefty percentage. If you're going to let me order $30 worth of groceries at the store price, charge me $40 for them, then charge me a $5 service fee, and a $8 delivery fee, and then ask me to tip? Yikes.

I've taken advantage of some of the special offers that let me get $10 off or $20 off by referring someone, which offsets the extra cost, but I'd still mostly rather just do it myself.

At least with the grocery delivery, they're paying the store the full price of the groceries when they shop for you. The takeout meal delivery businesses not only charge us a service fee or delivery fee and expect us to tip the driver, they also charge the restaurants 25-35% of the menu price!

Many of the restaurants being delivered by these services also do their own delivery, so when I get delivery I try to order direct from them and have them deliver. That way the local company and delivery driver get all the money, and large chunks of it don't immediately jet off to Silicon Valley.
