Today I can see it

The sky looks like pink fog this morning and the air quality sucks even more than it has. My house is 8 blocks from where the 192 red circle is measured.



They have extended the air danger warnings til Monday mid-day. It could be way worse in many ways and I'm still in only normal danger of catching fire.

And, after today, our temperatures start their decline into fall and winter. Finally. And, yeah!

BUT there is BIG news. Big. This time next week, I'll be within 7 hours of taking my first walk in shower in my own house!! Yes. Bathfitters called yesterday. They will be here to do the deed on Thursday.

They are the strangest outfit. I told them from the get go that my job was to pay and that Christian was in charge of everything else. They never grasped that at all. They told him two days ago the materials would be here Monday. Clearly they have the materials and probably have had them for a couple of days. They told us both that there would be one guy. They are sending two. They told us the install would probably be on a Monday or Tuesday. They told me yesterday the first available day was Thursday (but, as she said that she did not sound at all certain). They are off by a couple of pixels on everything they say - nothing critical or really even consequential but nothing spot on either. So weird.

I'll be happy to forgive all if, by 5 pm next Friday, I'm taking a walk in shower.

My rainbow crochet is coming along. I started out doing squares but realized that was not at all necessary so now I just keep going until time for a color change. Much less fiddly. And, with this stitch, you can't tell the difference.



When they moved the air warning to Monday, I decided to order grocery delivery. I had an order partially completed and then canceled. I have food here. Sure, there's stuff on my list I'd like to have but I don't need it. I have eggs and milk and bread. And a freezer full of other stuff. I keep saying I want to clean out the freezer and now is the time. So I'll go to the grocery store next week. $ saved!

I finally got hooked on Dead to Me on Netflix. I watched an episode when it first came out and it did not appeal. But, I'm into it now and there's a new season so excellent. Plus there are a couple of other interesting Netflix series and The Sounds on Acorn has a good start. So plenty to keep me entertained here inside with windows shut.

I do love that stitch on that blanket. It looks like it makes the fabric thick and comfy.

I watched the first season of Dead to Me and really enjoyed it (I'm a major fan of both Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini, so I enjoyed it just for them anyway), but for some reason I didn't continue it. This reminds me to pick it back up, so now I'll have something else to add to my "weekend morning quiet TV time" list. :D

I truly don't know how folks out on the West Coast are managing, you in Seattle included. We're halfway across (and up and down) Ohio, and some relentlessly heavy fog, here, was found to have in it particulate matter from those wildfires.
Hard to take in. Er...no pun intended.

I'm eager to see you pictures of the new walk-in shower. We'll be doing the same thing here, once we can settle on the plan. I'm hoping we'll get a walk in with NO curb to step over.


I can hardly believe DT Seattle has worse air than us. What a F-upped weather mess we're all in.

Christian said that a no lip shower requires the entire bathroom floor to be re architected so that it will drain properly and not flood the house. He said it was doable but a big deal.

Air in Chico gets measured just a few blocks from my place. At midnight it was 197, and is predicted to be from unhealthy to hazardous through next Tuesday and into Wednesday. In the last 48 hours the minimum has been 165 and the maximum 348. We're lucky. Up in what's left of Paradise at midnight it was 453, and in Oroville 709, which is pretty much off the scale. I'm not looking forward to the next week.

I forget if you've expressed an opinion on hospital/.medical shows, but we've watched the first two episodes of NBC's Transplant, and while in some ways it's a standard-issue medical soap (with the usual built-in implausibility), it's got some unusual aspects and so far it's holding our interest.

The title led me to expect that it would be about a team that specializes in organ transplants; this turns out to have been entirely mistaken. (The main character is a Syrian doctor who fled the civil war and ends up getting a hospital job in Toronto.)

I'm a sucker for most medical shows. I did watch the first episode of Transplant and as one critic said - I paraphrase - what it lacked in credibility, it more than made up for in everything else. The only bit that really hung me up was how he got his hands on the drill in a restaurant so fast and how he either found the battery or had electricity to run it. Not that that was any more plausible than the rest. Nits.

To me, the most implausible part is that he got hired when and how he did.

I note that it was clever to set the show in Canada; if it had been in the US, the politics could have gotten really messy.

Yes on the Canada. It's just one of those shows you need to just go with it. But, at least it's scripted TV we haven't seen before which is a rare bird these days!

Yes, that's really its main attraction. Oh, and the star is pretty to look at, which can make up for a lot of defects.

I need to try watching Dead to Me again. I finished the first season, but didn’t start up again when season 2 came out.
