Tech babysitting
Nov. 24th, 2020 09:25 amLast night, I was making toast to go under the rest of my illegal advent jelly, when the toaster popped the toast up. It needed more so I put it back in but it wouldn't go in. Toaster broken? It's a new toaster. Oh wait, I just set the coffee to make a cup and it's not making either. I'd popped a circuit. No biggie but I was amused at how long it took me to figure out that was the problem. I apologized to the appliances.
Then when I went to the bedroom to go to bed, the light was off. WTF? Alexa turns the light on every night before I get there. So I asked Alexa to turn the light on and she said there was a problem. The app said 'server unavailable'. Er what? I told Google to turn it on and it came on so server was clearly available. Google is only semi set up. I meant to mirror Echo for just this kind of issue but never got around to it.
I have a fan, and 6 different lights in the bedroom and hallway that go off can come on depending on the time or my activity. I'm sure not going to turn them all on and off manually like some kind of caveman! Even asking Google or Alexa to do it seems primitive. The routine doesn't change. They know the drill. Sigh.
Just this morning, Amazon sent an email about a new service they are rolling out that will, I hope, do my tech babysitting for me, but until then... I did finally get Alexa back in the saddle but now Google Home has an ominous message about my ceiling fan only having 26 more days of connectivity. WTF?
Oh well, at least Alexa is happy and if she is happy, I am happy. It does kind of shock me to look at all the stuff she does for me routinely without my intervention and what I'd have to do if she just died. I don't want to think about it.
I ordered more yarn today. Ridiculous. But, true. BUT...
I am making money hand over fist this morning. It's funny-money from the stock market. The analysts are all charged up about the vaccine all my stocks are in the green this morning. I didn't tell the analysts about the yarn purchase. I don't want them to get discouraged.
I watched last week's episode one of Big Sky. It was way better than I expected.
Chewy is delivering the new litter box today. Damn, that place is fast. And, this time, it's coming via Fed Ex instead of Ontrac which for here, anyway, is way better. Fed Ex usually delivers mid morning and it way more reliable.
The house is ready for the house cleaner tomorrow so no big chore list for today. Just more constantly syncing my Fitbit waiting for the upgrade. I do love technology.
Edit 10 mins later: Now the app is showing that the litter cam is offline and I'm going to have to walk all the way to the other end of the house to investigate. There is no end to this!

Date: 2020-11-24 07:02 pm (UTC)Yeah Big Sky is a watcher - you will not be happy to wait for ep 2 but it's tonight so then you won't be happy to have to wait for ep 3.

Date: 2020-11-24 10:14 pm (UTC)I get too much of that tech error stuff at work to make the thought of wrangling it at home as well anything but horrific. I think I'll continue to interface with it with my primitive fingers. I gave Big Sky a shot as I remember CJ Box from Dorothyl. I wasn't sure about it at the beginning, but they got me! I did spot the squirrelly people from the beginning but nevertheless I wasn't expecting that ending. Excellent.
