[livejournal.com profile] bill_schubert sent me this link.

The New York Times has this amazing tool to find out where in the vaccine pecking order you are right now.

This is me...

Based on your risk profile, we believe you’re in line behind 23.0 million people across the United States.

When it comes to Washington, we think you’re behind 440,000 others who are at higher risk in your state.

And in King County, you’re behind 146,800 others.

But, also, there are a few others behind me in line:

Wonder what happens when you take out the mask deniers and the Trump supporters...

EXACTLY!
Wouldn't it be nice if they'd be happy to let everyone else take their place in line?

Interesting but I have to ask - once you have done all the seniors, people with health risks, many working adults, the young adults, children and some categories I can’t read, who is left to t’en in the group « others »? Besides the anti-maskers and Trump suporters.

Based on your risk profile, we believe you’re in line behind 118.5 million people across the United States.

When it comes to Texas, we think you’re behind 10.4 million others who are at higher risk in your state.

And in Dallas County, you’re behind 947,100 others.

If the line in Texas was represented by about 100 people, this is where you’d be standing:

The article continues below the graphic.
1.4M healthcare workers
303k in nursing homes
160k first responders
8.6M with health risks
You, with 403k other elderly
757k essential workers
606k teachers
39k homeless
153k prisoners
3.8M young adults
7.1M children
1.1M other essential workers
3.5M others

I got the same number nationally, and much lower lower numbers for state (MA) and county (Middlesex), which, to be sure, have considerably lower populations than TX and Dallas, respectively.

Apparently being over 70 doesn't get me anything to speak of, without "underlying conditions", which I decided didn't include my blood pressure, since medication keeps it under control.

And of course we have no idea how the Times's rather speculative algorithm will stack up against the coming reality.

My doc tells me that having high blood pressure under control doesn't take me off the list of folks with that risk. In other words, apparently it's not the okayness of one's b.p. (at any given moment) that's the issue in itself.

Well, that does change things a bit. I now see 23.0 million in the nation, 602,400 in the state, and 122,400 in the county. Puts me at 29th in the notional list of 100 people.

Here’s where I am:

And I am totally ok with that. I mean, I’m eager to get the vaccine. I have places to go! But I can stay safe that long, I’m pretty sure.

I got basically the same answer, though I do work for the healthcare company (though not a medical worker) who owns my building; my neighbors and I will most likely get the vaccine at the same time as those residents of the nursing home and assisted living facility across the street.

I think it's interesting, the differences.I do wonder at the classification of "essential worker"
If an essential worker, you've probably been working in person throughout the pandemic in a vital industry like health, food or energy.

Working in food or energy. So forward-facing customer service people? Grocery and take out delivery people? Bartenders and baristas? Grocery store and gas station folks?
Are people making the boxes that ship Amazon merch to you essential? What about those Amazon packers and delivery people?

I'm not saying these people shouldn't be first in line, but I can imagine the white collar shit fit that people are going to throw.

H'rrmffp.

I think, allowing for age, location, and all those conditions for which I haven't been diagnosed (diabetes, heart, etc.) I expect I'll be waiting at least until January of 2022 before I get a Covid-19 vaccination.

Meanwhile, I'm going to scrub up, mask up, get my flu shot, and then continue to hunker down and keep my physical distance.

How fascinating. We seem to be getting 130,000 doses so far, for 83,000 of us, so not enough for everyone - but I am guessing I will be closer to the head of the line than, say, my daughter and her family - maybe about half way.

Ooo. Thanks for that link!
From what I can tell, I'm pretty much at the end of that line; I'm not sure how I feel about that. Although I _think_ I may be immune-compromised because of these persistent hives that have popped up, but I'm not willing to risk going to a lab for a blood test...

Oddly, though I am younger than you but also with COVID-related health risks, I appear only about a third, at most, of the way down the same "section" of the line that you seem to be near the midpoint of. Does this mean that among the health risk crowd in your county there are more older people than in mine? I guess we do have ton of undergrads, and maybe a bunch of them have health risks. But it seems unlikely the NYT would have that info as part of its algorithm. And it should have it in advance, if it's using it, vs. just gleaning what they glean from people using the tool.
