Yesterday, completely out of nowhere, Biggie dragged this into the living room.

PXL_20201212_175651614

This is the remains on the very first Stickie. (He had chewed off the feather and I'd tried ot replace it with a new feather and then with strings of yarn.) I broke off the stick so I could fit both pieces into the garbage after I traded it for Stickie II (which was now about 3 Stickie's ago).

I would have sworn in court that it was now in a landfill somewhere. But, I wouldn't have been wrong. I have no idea where he found it. It was in bed with us when we woke up this morning. And now it's in the living room again. It's like Fatal Attraction's Glenn Close.

---

And... Biggie keeps getting up on my laptop table. He knocks stuff over and steps all over the keyboard. One day he's going to drown it. He has yet to comprehend NO or DOWN. So yesterday, I got a spray bottle out of the kitchen. I put it next to me. Now when he gets on the table, I tell him NO and DOWN and when he ignores me, I put my hand on the spray bottle and off he goes! I have not needed to squeeze the trigger once.

I once had a cat that got into the garbage in the kitchen which was contained in the pantry behind one of those louvered doors. He would pull out the door and topple the garbage. So we had a no kitchen rule. He could walk up to the kitchen but one paw off the carpet and I nailed him. With a battery powered water machine gun. It was very effective as I could hit him and then stay on him as he ran away. It did not take long before I just had to hit the trigger on the empty gun and the sound would do the same. Then he gave up (very un cat like but he was kind of trainable). We moved and he adjusted to a new environment and still knew he was not allowed on the non carpet area.

Water spray is so effective with cats.

I find water spray good when they're kittens and get to the stage (they all do!) of thinking it's a great idea to jump up on the kitchen counter. Unfortunately they also figure out very quickly that it only works if I'm there.

We've got a small bottle of something cats hate the smell of (possibly tea-tree oil, I don't remember). When one of the cats threatens to jump onto a kitchen counter I pick up the bottle and show him and he changes his mind. Originally I used to take the cap off and wave the bottle around near him but that's not necessary now.

Inspired by Biggie, I bought my cats a stickie. One of them loves it. The other runs away in fear.

I thought of Biggie and Stickie yesterday. A friend of mine recently rescued a stray kitten out of a tree. Cat is now named Worthless and is living a life of ease. Anyway, my friend bought her a smaller version of Stickie. Fun times.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a cat responding to voice commands. Their brains just don’t seem to be wired for that. Fortunately, they all seem to understand spray bottle, once they get doused with one.
