Not one of my better days...
Dec. 15th, 2020 07:13 pmFirst the glass half full. The vet I got today - Dr. Lewis - was fabulous as was the vet tech. They are in the middle of downtown so no place to do parking lot handoffs. So, they let 5 people in the lobby and make them space out. I didn't even have to wait in the lobby, we were ushered into our own room with an air filter going full tilt.
I live in a town where there are emergency vets. More than one. Options.
I'm home new and have a quick and easy dinner I could just grab from the fridge and chill out.
Some genius stuck a phone charging cable in the glove box of my car. Thank you, me, you are really brilliant and I'm very grateful.
Biggies at the emergency vet's. The regular vet got him set up with pre surgery drugs and hydration so he even had a head start. They will call me in 3 or 4 hours with a treatment game plan and when I agree, they will then carve him up. Tonight.
The regular vets office was heated like a slow cooker. All the worker bees were in short sleeved shirts and so the temperature was very comfortable for them. I was in a long sleeved fleece turtleneck which will now have to be fumigated. But at least I was not sitting out in my car for the 3 hours it took.
It was dark when we left to go to the emergency vet's. That part of town is confusing in the daylight and Google had a massive brain lesion. He fucked up the navigation in ways that on another day I'd admire for creativity. But tonight was just mean. He tried to get me to take roads - twice - that weren't even roads. One was a marking lot and one was a bike path with locked gates.
And it kept trying to fire up the audio book I decided to quit reading. It was really a three stooges ride.
The emergency vet was a sit in the parking lot kind of deal which was fine. And I really only had to wait about 30 minutes total. And coming home was a straight shot.
The house feels so weird without him. I'm very bummed about sleeping alone tonight.
Such a little guy to have been carved up so many times. I did have a flash on the way home about what if he doesn't make it. But he will and I'll put his favorite pillow collar on him and give him his meds and laugh at his shaved tummy.
Tomorrow.
It's just after 7 now. I figure I'll be asleep when they call so I need to make sure I have my credit card number handy. Just what I wanted for Christmas. Cat surgery.
