Mysteries of life
Dec. 18th, 2020 07:44 amHere's a cat that eats everything - stuff he cannot even possibly digest - who refuses to take a pill - even wrapped in a pill pocket which he loves????? Last night, he ate two pill pockets, leaving the pill. I finally got it down him but it was a battle.
In 30 minutes we will do it again. Every 12 hours.
After the constant movement of yesterday, he did settle down and sleep but then, of course, I kept checking to make sure he was breathing.

The yellow blanket is minky and he loves to knead it. That's what he's doing right now as I type this.
I think we managed to get all the hospital stink off of him. He had a little matted area on his back and litter stuck to his feet but by bedtime, he was pretty cleaned up.
We had a good sleep last night. It was heaven to hear that little wheezing and feel him next to me. He was there most of the night but at one point, when I got up to pee, I found his collar on the floor so I know he wasn't there all night. He can almost reach the bottom of his stitches with the collar on. I ordered him a bigger one and it should be here today. He's eaten a little this morning and had some water and peed in the litter box. The medicine is supposed to keep him relaxed and seems to be working.
Today's plans include watching Biggie be Biggie On Drugs. And crochet and TV and really not much of anything else. It's been a long and stressful week so I'm glad to have a nothing day.
The new neighbors in the big apartment are there this morning. One guy, now getting breakfast. Thanks, guy, for the shades up. Welcome to the 'hood!

Date: 2020-12-18 05:22 pm (UTC)What if you smashed the pill into small pieces and wrapped the pill pocket around it?

Date: 2020-12-18 06:34 pm (UTC)I can't insert a photo. I specially made 1 entry in my empty magazine, where I placed a photo of the introducer, if you are interested, you can look in my magazine. For some cat owners, it is convenient to give these pills.
This is from the instructions for this tablet maker -
In this case, a tablet dispenser should be used. With its help, it will be possible to perform the procedure quickly and with minimal damage to the pet and the owner. The device has the shape of a syringe and its use does not require any special skills: Take the tablet dispenser out of the original packaging and rinse it with plain warm boiled or purified water (do not use soap solutions!). Insert a tablet into the special hole at the tip. Put the cat in your arms with its back to you, pet and calm down. Slowly pull back the fur on the withers so that his mouth begins to open. If the cat is aggressive, then at this stage the help of someone close to him may be required to hold the paws of the pet. Pick up the tablet dispenser and gently insert it into the cat's mouth in the area of the back teeth (by the canine). The soft tip should not harm the animal, however, you should not overdo it. Press the trigger of the tablet press. Close the cat's mouth and hold it for a while so that it swallows the pill. Swallowing is stimulated by light stroking on the neck. You can check the success of the event by lifting the pet's cheek: the unswallowed tablet will be visible through the gaps between the teeth. After finishing the procedure, rinse the device and dry it with a clean towel.

Date: 2020-12-18 06:48 pm (UTC)This morning, I wrapped the pill in a very small amount of treat and he gobbled it up. So I think we've got a plan.

Date: 2020-12-18 06:55 pm (UTC)Actually, this morning, I put the pill in half a pill pocket and he gobbled it right up. I think it was just too much pill pocket last night.

Date: 2020-12-18 09:27 pm (UTC)When we first got Duck he hid from us and we had an unbelievably hard time catching him and giving him the pill. After the first day, I made a help post. (https://teragramm.livejournal.com/118152.html) The pill shooter was a lifesaver.
I suggest you buy the pill shooter, just to have in case the half a pill pocket doesn't work.

it was not very comfortable for my dog to go to the toilet in this blanket, but it didn’t lick the seam on the belly.
