*Yet Another Biggie Update

He's doing great. The new collar is perfect. He doesn't even try to get it off. It does not get in his way at all. He's moving around more often and more like normal. Last night I woke up a couple of times and he was missing but came back every time so I guess he was just doing night rounds. He sits still for both kinds of medicines now and gobbles up his pill. Both drugs are sedating so he's not ready to take his Bar Exam. It's more like he has just a mellow high. His stitches area which was hot as a firecracker, has cooled down considerably and is now the same as the rest of his skin.

But the big news is that the emergency vet called last night with the biopsy results. No cancer. But the report says he has some kind of issue with his intestines. She must have asked me 5 different ways about his eating/eliminating - trying to find some way something was wrong. But I couldn't help her. He's eating fine. Pooping like a champ. Not throwing up. Sorry, charley. She kept saying "you might think about taking him to an internal specialist". Yep I might think about that. She finally said she would send the report as well as a complete report of his surgery and recovery to my regular vet. And we said goodnight.

It was a weird conversation but whatever. We're good. And he's doing good.

The view from my treadmill this morning...

Today's adventure is taking the kitchen garbage down to the dumpster. Should be exciting.

Biggie's in here now, resting up for it.

Very weird it is made with snaps instead of velcro when I think either would work. The snaps have more class.

That is a really well thought out collar. Looks elegant, does the job, and allows function. Very nice.

Glad he's doing well.

Poor little prince.

They should make those collars the standard.

Glad he's doing well but I hope you know that when his drug dealer decides he needs to go cold turkey he will go crazy 🙂

Glad to know there's no malignancy of the bowel.

I'm about to schedule our little tortie (who is in the early stages of renal failure) for a urinary bladder xray because a urinalysis several weeks ago showed some blood. Not a terribly great lot of it but it's there and it shouldn't be. She expects we'll find a stone, passed from a kidney and irritating the bladder enough to provoke some bleeding. She also wants to do an ultrasound which will show up any polyps, and it will tell us something about the thickness of the bladder wall and the thickness of the bowel wall.
We, by which I mean the vet and I, are trying to work out the best way to maintain the best possible nutrition (all my cats have been like their human ma: given a choice, I'll choose comfort food and have to consciously and deliberately work at selecting healthier stuff) and to keep her kidneys as healthy as possible for as long as possible. Just because that kidney diet food is better for her doesn't mean the cat will eat it readily or happily. Vet prescribed a pro-biotic to help settle my little cat's tummy and to possibly help alleviate anything in the gut which is irritating her or contributing to the vomiting we were seeing. (I admit I was slightly surprised that a gut irritation could provoke vomiting; one tends to associate vomiting with tummy upset but it can also be due to systemic things.)
Our veterinarian's aim, besides treating our cat, is to eliminate all the "abnormals" possible so we get the clearest and most factual picture of what we're dealing with.
Meanwhile, we're doing as much as we can do as quickly as we can afford to do it.

The pro-biotic seems to be helping to settle the tummy and it also softens the poop to make it easier to pass, but none of t hat changes her situation: she's still in renal failure.

I'm not a veterinarian or even an RVT. I take pathology/histology/cytology reports seriously even if I'm making allowances for the potential for error.
I'm sharing this because I want to to urge you to at least talk with an internal specialist---or several---even just over the phone to get a feel for how well you two "click" and find out about the costs and possibly what else could be going on. He or she will state that without examining the patient, etc., etc., etc., can't make any definite statements; if he or she does mention possibilities, they'll be possibilities and you shouldn't be alarmed or relieved.
And if you possibly can or as soon as you possibly can, make an appointment to have Biggie seen by an internist.

As an aside (almost done with the minor rant), I'd make damn' sure there are no small bits of toys or small toys anywhere around that Biggie might ingest, or small anything he might ingest. Ours get big, soft things with smooth surfaces to chase and play with, and they do go after them and "kill" their prey.

Good news for Biggie! Maybe he eats weird stuff because of the problem he has with his intestines. Maybe a consult with an internist might be a good idea.

I so happy that your little guy is doing well. I had a big beautiful black cat years ago. He lived till 16. Now I’ve got two rescue tabbies who absolutely have me dancing to their tune. For the last 9 years! Susan S. In Arizona.

OMG how adorable he is reclining on his handy pillow. Melt. Good it's not cancer, obvs, but a yucky situation to be in when they think it's...something. Those something things are hard to live with. It doesn't seem to be doing him any harm, though, which is extremely comforting.

awww <3 so glad it is not cancer! It could be some autoimmune stuff, I did not know cats could have celiac disease too, but actually my previous long haired cat, Rossini, was diagnosed with it even before myself. I had to feed him grain free food, otherwise he'd get weird pustules on his chin. And there are other similar things.
