The last few times I've cut my hair, I've nailed it. So today when I decided to take a little off the back, I was just a little too cocky.

When I was little, I was forced to go to church every Sunday. Sunday school was tolerable but an hour of protestant church service was excruciating. My only savior was the hair. I would study the hair of the women (and some of the men but it was the 50's - not a lot happening in men's hair) in the pews in front of me. There was one woman who always sported the most fascinating up 'do'. But I studied all of them.

I will not be going to church for many moons in case there is a new version of me back there. She will be all WTF?? And I can't do that to a little mind.

I found a toboggan hat. And I'm making a better one now.

Like it matters which it does not. The hair on the back of my head grows fast and I'm not going anywhere.

Laundry done. Mail got. All's cool.

Oh and 14 tissues so far - it's now 1 pm. Actually, that's fewer than I would have suspected.

I feel like it is my duty to tell you that a coworker of mine used Flonase several times a day for some amount of time and ended up sort of getting addicted to it....so when she tried stopping it, she got what was called "rebound congestion ", which really just amounted to a bit more misery to add to her regular allergies. I have no clue what the details are....for all I know she was using it totally incorrectly, but still I'd feel like a jerk if you were talking about this 3 months from now and I hadn't mentioned it. 😄

I still look at people’s hair no matter where I am.
When I was a kid, there was a lady at church who had what I called rat nest hair. It was up and away from her face, but just went back and sort of...stopped? And was all this mess like it was teased snd sprayed until rock solid. I was fascinated and aggravated at the same time because WHY would you style your hair in such a bizarre way? She seemed very nice when I saw her talking to people, but I hated when her hair was in my line of vision.

I cannot tell you how glad I am that I can't see the back of my head. jwg can, of course, but he has (wisely) not complained. I am really going to enjoy my first professional haircut since last March, whenever it occurs. Well, I'll enjoy the results, anyway.

Yes. Honestly the back of my hair has probably been a mess since I gave up professional hair cutting but this is the first time it's been such a mess that I can feel it with my hands. But, it will grow back. At least it always has before.

When I was a kid, I didn't study the old ladies' hair in church. I studied their coats. A lot of them had (probably faux) fur-lined coats.

I remember one time there was an older lady in front of me that was wearing a coat made of black curly (faux?) fur. And I just had to reach out and touch it, because a fur jacket feels cool and there was nothing else in that mass to hold a little kid's interest. The lady turned around to see who was touching her. My parents apologized and tapped me and told me to stop.

aww, that's a fun visual. we were in the south. so not many fur coats BUT it was the 50's so what few there were, were NOT faux.

In NJ, coats are kind of mandatory in the winter.

Until I was 7, we lived in a gritty blue-collar town. When I was 7, we moved to a more up-and-coming town, but most of the old-timers were still blue-collar types. And since my parents are Polish immigrants, both churches were a part of the Polish-American community. Most people had more important financial priorities than fur jackets.

I've been trimming my own hair for years! During a warm stretch last fall I decided I should try a shorter trimmer guide than usual, and boy was it shorter than I expected! Wish I could split the difference.
