Swim day

The big deal today, of course, is swimming. But, that's not until 2:30.

First up is the chimney sweep. I'm waiting as long as I can to unhook the fireplace screen and get it ready because I know You Know Who will have a field day playing the ashes and tracking them all over the house. I could shut him up in the bathrooom for the day. I do not have the heart to do that. So ashes all over the house it is! The robot vac is charged up and ready.

The online NY Times has, in the middle of the front page, a little COVID-19 section. Every morning, it tells me the status on my own neighborhood. It has said that King County, WA is VERY HIGH RISK for weeks and weeks and yesterday we got demoted to HIGH RISK. Kind of a milestone. Actually, not even kind of. It is a real milestone. Early on, I wondered here in this journal, what the end of this whole mess would look like. I still wonder.

I'm in the middle of a 30+hour long audiobook and it's due back in the library in a week. I think after I finish the fireplace project, it will be audiobook and crochet for me today. Until pool time.

I think I'll go get dressed and get started.

I really couldn't tell you what compelled me to take a look at your LiveJournal page for the first time in ages and ages; I do almost nothing with LiveJournal ever since I migrated to my own domain (although I do admittedly go to my own LiveJournal landing page every day, just so I can copy and paste the Twitter digest into my own blog; so far as I am aware Squarespace still doesn't have a daily Twitter digest anywhere near as easy and simple). But! I did, and after seeing this entry and your reference to the NYTimes COVID-19 section, I wonder if you are aware of the Coronavirus Daily News Updates page of the Seattle Times? It gets much more into the weeds on local covid data, and I also like to browse the news briefs below the graphs.

https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/health/coronavirus-daily-news-updates-february-18-what-to-know-today-about-covid-19-in-the-seattle-area-washington-state-and-the-world/

Each day I open my browser with that tab always open, and I just update the URL to the new date. It's been nice to see the "reported cases per day" 14-day average line graph steadily declining for over a month now, though it remains stunning how massive the spike over the holidays was compared to the entire time before it, making previous so-called "spikes" look like nothing in comparison. The numbers even now are far higher than they ever were before the holidays, but it's still heartening to see them declining, and the vaccination numbers going up (over one in ten now with a first dose!).

I do realize though that the graphs there are statewide stats, whereas, somewhat ironically, the national newspaper to which you refer offers a more localized glimpse into our specific county.

Ha! Thanks. And yeah, I actually emailed Squarespace support about this some time ago, and that link doesn't appear to be radically changed from what it was then: what I don't like about the option is it just shows a block with recent tweets, rather than anchoring that day's tweets to that day's post. So, I've just been copying the html from the automated digests at LiveJournal and pasting them into their own posts at my blog. I stopped paying LiveJournal but I never stopped taking advantage of them!

Also I just discovered you can click that King County block on the New York Times and it gives you very similar information to the Seattle Times page, just narrowed down to the county! I'd say I almost wish I still had my NYTimes subscription as opposed to having switched to the Washington Post, but I just remembered I have King County's own data page, which is even more detailed, bookmarked already. :)
