So... how was you swim??

There was a lot of traffic. I should have left the house sooner. BUT they had not let anyone in yet. I was fourth in line. Standing in line in the rain does not have the bite it would otherwise when you are there to get wet anyway.

The entry was a minimum of fuss. Two of the three lifeguards on duty were old timers who have life guarded at that pool for a million years. It was neat to see them. According to Fitbit, I was in the water at 2:33 so not late at all, actually.

They put two people to a lane and split it in half. And they had the usual fast and slow lanes. I got into a slow and shared it with an old man who swam probably 30 minutes. The rest of the time it was mine.

My first few laps were hilarious. Neither me nor my body remembered what to do. But, we got the hang of it after a bit. My form sucked and I was slow as Christmas but I did not care, it was glorious. I swam and swam until they finally kicked me out.



When I saw the Fitbit report, I was surprise I had gotten in that much yardage. Not too shabby for not having swam a lick in 9 months. I shed my suit under my robe so that at least I could get a bit dry and it was fine.

When I got to the car, I had a voice mail from the doctor's office saying my second vaccine got snowed out and I should call for a new appointment. Crapdiddly. I figured I'd just call right then while I caught my breath. I figured I'd have to leave a message or I'd be on hold for ever or I wouldn't get through.

None of the above. The person who answered the phone set me up for the 25th at 2:30. Done and dusted. Could not have been easier.

So, on the strength of that victory, I decided to get fried chicken and okra from the take out place across the street from the pool.

By the time I got home, I was dry and my hair looked and felt like a brillo pad scared into straight spikes. Biggie was so confused. Where the fuck had I been????? I walked right into the shower and that confused him even more. We only take showers in the morning here.

Now I'm clean, my hair has been tamed. I have chicken and okra ready to eat for dinner and I am guaranteed a good sleep tonight. Whew. Next swim is Tuesday!

I wondered the same thing! I noticed that everyone was out of the pool but me but no one was stopping me so I just kept on going. A few laps later, the lifeguard caught my eye and waved me out. It was nicer than a whistle.

Hooray for swim! I'm loving my swimming here at the beach. Do you like ocean swimming, or as the British call it wild swimming, or as we call it swimming?:) There's a guy here that swims the length of this long beach and back every morning, which to me looks like a nice alternative to a pool.

I've actually never had much opportunity for ocean swimming. But, I'm not wild about the idea of swimming with creatures and I'm not wild about swimming outside so... if I were near an ocean, I might dip a toe in but full out swimming? probably not.

Just came out of the water and was remarking on how clear the water was and how in all the years I've been swimming, starting as a kid, I've never seen a single fish! There have been quite a few shark sightings this summer, however, including one at this very beach on 1 Feb, but that's not as frightening as it sounds. It's not like Aussie where they have to net the beaches. We have the odd maneater but hardly any. Hmm, I suspect I'm not making much of a case:). Given NZ is basically one long beach, everyone lives in the water and sharks aren't something you worry about.

Yep. Life is so good today! Of course, my rarely used shoulder muscles are, this evening, begging to differ. :)

Clever that the Fitbit records the swim! I've got a friend here that does open water swimming and he uses a Garmin device, but seems to have problems getting it to record accurately.

I used a garmin for years but I do like the fitbit better. However, tracking open water swims is really hard and I'm guessing the garmin is best for that even with its faults.

?? hardly pre-covid! actually not even close — very little about the day was pre-covid. it was a very different swim than pre-covid. but it did feel wonderful.

I couldn't wait to read about your swim! Hooray for you. 🙂 At our pool you can only share lanes with members of your same household. I recently had a dream that I arrived at the pool post-covid and there were SO many people in every lane, swimming around like ants.

I'm going to have to learn to share. 🙄

Today's entry will be about the good things with COVID swimming! It was really wonderful. swim dreams are always so hilarious. and my swim dreams are nearly all about overcrowded pools.
