It was bound to happen. I had potatoes to bake (for my twice baked freezer stock) and the oven was empty and I thought, why the heck not?! So I fired it up. 1. I'm used to toaster oven speed. Takes about an hour or less to bake a large potato. Big oven... closer to two hours! 2. And that sucker is HOT!! I'm not quite sure how I did it but I managed to burn the finger tips of the ring finger and middle finger of my left hand and I mean burn! It hurts. I have a glass of ice water here that I keep soaking them in. I was hoping to keep from putting on any kind of ointment cause I need those fingers but they aren't very usable soaking in ice water either.

Crap. Oh well. The potatoes are safely in the freezer and I have learned my lesson.

Stick with the ice water! Keep those things as cold as you can. Otherwise, they cook on their own, same as meat. Ice ice ice ice!!! ICE!

Two hours? What temperature setting are you using? (I find baking potatoes at 450F for an hour or so works very nicely.)

We're in sync lately, Susan. First the zoo, now a burn. I got mine while stirring a pot of veggies using a long-handled spoon. My old "built-in" oven is above the cooktop and the oven's underside is way too hot for skin contact. It's above my wrist and it's so ugly I've had requests to "cover that thing." Ouch!

Did you draw your graphic? Too cute.
