Momentous Days

Tomorrow is the 20th anniversary of our last big earthquake. (And, wouldn't it be cool if it were the last one?) I put up a quick web page that dayso my Mom could see and print it out for her friends. She was quite famous at 'the home' in Charleston, SC because she had a daughter in The Big One.

Today was my first frivolous post-COVID 19 outing. My first time leaving the house with no good reason or need to do so since March 15, 2020.

I'm glad I went. I've had Grocery Outlet on the brain for most of that year. I'm over it now. Grocery Outlet is the kind of place you really need to visit often and stay on top of their inventory to get the most out of what they have. The closest one is now too far for me to go often. And, today, like days of old, I just mostly bought stuff I didn't really need. Although that ginger biscotti is damn good.

It was fun and an adventure.

I was surprised and pretty delighted to see masks on nearly every face on the street and in the store. The few who were without were not near anyone, outside, and had a mask visible at their neck or in their hand.

I'm proud of you, Seattle.

March 15th 2020! Brunch!
Sadly I don't think we'll get to celebrate it this March.

yes... I did check to see that Endolyne Joe's is back open with inside seating and I feel like you'd do it but I'm pretty sure I'm chicken. Also the menu is not that great yet. So maybe we wait one more phase?

I can only imagine what an earthquake of that magnitude is like. The worst I've ever been through is that one that was centered in Virginia in 2011, which was probably only around a 2.5 — 3 magnitude by the time the shock wave made it all the way to NJ.

I remember that earthquake. I was living in El Salvador at the time, and we had major earthquakes on January 13 and February 13. I spent a lot of time on the USGS website that year.

I went to the grocery outlet today too. Got lots of stuff.

I have also been venturing to some places I haven't been in a year. Yes, everyone is masked, but the stores have no inventory and they are packed!

I get it. No shoppers, no inventory.

Stores have been hammered and will need time to recover. I'm not sure I'm going to risk Covid to venture out much, though.

I am that stir crazy.

I also noted how many people were out and about and parking lots full.

There was a time we were receiving 500 concerns a day from citizens. Now, it's a big day if we get 50. We may be looking at the light at the end of the tunnel, but I'm worried. People are so weary of lock down. I hope these new variants don't cause surge 4.

Interesting about the call rates. I actually haven't noticed what you have. Parking lots still have lots of room around here and inventory seems ok. What I've noticed is that the places I want to go again just aren't there any more. It will be a new world.

At least Goodwill is there with healthy inventory. That's where I'm going this morning.
