This is my car. 2011 Smart car. Room for me and a friend and, apparently a whole lotta shit.

Smart Car - mine

When I got down to the car and viewed the mess in the daylight, I just decided to empty it. Two 13 gallon trash bags worth.

I enjoy What's in My Bag and What's on My Desk posts. This is your What's in My Car entry.

The dump.

The detail.

Turns out, there's some redundancies. Shopping bags.

PXL_20210318_175149310

If I filled even half of these, I'd be long out of room to carry the in the car!

Two towels, three pairs of gloves, two rain coats.

PXL_20210318_175207834

Paper towels, wetwipes, 4 pks of tissues, 5 masks (2 n95, one never out of the plastic), gum, tools, inhaler, sunglasses (only one pair??? that's living on the edge). Shoes, swimbag (complete with suit, 2 pairs of goggles, music player (prob dead battery), earbuds), hoodie.

PXL_20210318_175212632.MP

Driver's license/registration, tire pressure check, 2 tape measures, 2 notebooks with pens,

PXL_20210318_175223950

Now... keep in mind, I rarely go more than 10 miles from home. I live in the inner city which means I am rarely anywhere that I cannot easily walk for help if needed. Most days, I go nowhere at all.

What in the hell do I need all this shit for???????

I got some serious work to do here.

OK. Culled.

The back hatch door has a compartment and that's where the towels, shoes and hoodie will live. The dash has two cubbies - sunglasses in one and bags in the other. No other empty shopping bags allowed in the car. There is net behind the seats that will hold the raincoat and bag of cleaning wipes and spare masks. One bag of misc essentials will go into the glove compartment. If no fit, then not essential. Flash light and one pair of gloves will go in the door pockets.

And, now, everything is in it's place. Easily and not tightly. I know where it all is. And, if you look in the windows, you see nothing but clean car!

This is fantastic. I was not expecting all of that to come out of this tiny car. It must have been like a game of Tetris.

I should try this. My distanced travelled is much further on 99 percent of of trips. Most of my stuff is either in the glove box or trunk.

Oh wow, I need to do this! I still have things in the car I never unpacked when we moved to this house last July.

So much stuff in such a tiny car! And you don't even live out of it! I think that's more than the mess in my CRV.

GOOD GRIEF! I think people must be all or nothing when it comes to car crap. All I have in mine, other than a map and a cleaning cloth in the glovebox, is a sunshade. I'm always aware of the advice not to leave stuff in your car in case it's a thief magnet. NZ is terrible for car theft and breakins. I've had a car stolen three times (got them back every time) and have had two breakins (in one they stole my ex-husband's gym bag that was locked in the boot [trunk]). If I had a lot of stuff in it, I would worry thieves would think I had valuables hidden underneath.

Well done! As I don't have a lot of space in my apartment, I often wind up storing Costco toilet paper and paper towels in the car.

I also store toilet paper and sofa in my car for the same reason.

I still want a Smart someday! They're just the perfect little car for me. My friend has had her (nicknamed Smartie) for ten years as well.

I have a 2015 Ford Escape, which is the first car I have ever owned that is capable of holding 4 people and 2 walkers, so my family can be in one car. I have several masks sitting in a cubby on the dashboard, both N95 and not, so they can get sunlight to decontaminate them a bit. The non-N95s rotate out because I can wash those. I have a rubbermaid tub that contains PPE if I need it for work, 2 umbrellas, some bottles of tea, and a plush dog named Snuffles that a family member of a patient gave me, as well as my nephew's Flat Stanley, who has been in my car for a year. (I really need to send him the pictures of Flat Stanley's adventures. At this point I need to make a book for him . . .)

The cup holder in the driver's side door has my id badge for work, a can of lysol, some generic disinfectant from my office, hand sanitizer, and bunches of plastic bottle caps, which my friend's kids collect for school. The console has emergency cash, extra feminine products, snacks--I just finished my jar of pecans, so I think just crackers at the moment, my inhaler, a tube of Carmex, the Sun Pass for when we travel to FL, paper napkins for holding onto gas pumps, probably some other detritus since I'm doing this from memory.

The back of my car currently has a case of Pelligrino because I can't carry it into the house, and currently neither can hubby since he's post surgery. We bring in a few bottles at a time. There is also a can of Deep Woods Off back there in a cubby in case I need it for work.

In front of my console I have two cup holders which always have tumblers in them, one of green tea and one of water, I have a pumpkin eraser with a purple hat that a patient gave me, and 2 shiny pink stones from a close friend who died. I also have three chargers, 2 for phones and 1 for my work tablet.

This list qualifies as cleaned up as my car is ever going to get since I work out of it. ;)

What kind of car is that? I'm looking for a sub-compact car for under ten grand that's at least ten years old.

Oh! I didn't realize that they are an actual brand of car. I will have to see if there are any of them that are used for sale.

Truthfully, what I actually want is a sub-compact sports car from the '70s, not automatic, without power steering or power brakes. I'm not even sure that they exist. All of the new cars make me feel as if I'm not in control of the car. ...And the dashboards look like little space stations. ...And I expect them to say, "I can't do that, Joy."

The last car I drove was made when Bill Clinton was President. I miss that car, but the bumper rusted off.
