I have had food from this place often but I'd never actually been there. Good thing, because while their food is fabulous, their place is scary. I suspect it is partially because of being closed for so long and partially a defense against Asian hate crimes, but this is not a place you'd be drawn to for anything but maybe a stabbing in the doorway.

The only clue you are at 663 Bistro is the very faded 663 number over the door. Honestly, if I had not paid already, I might not have gone in.

Inside wasn't that much better but a very chipper young woman said "Order pickup?" And I said yes and gave my name and she had my order all ready to go. (I hit the order button here in the living room and then got into the car and drove to the place and it was ready when I got there. I'm cool with that.)

Then I swung by Krispy Kreme to try out their Free donut for vaccination proof deal. TOTALLY LEGIT! I pulled up to the drive through speaker and ordered 1 Vaccination Donut, please. I rolled around to the pick up window, flashed my vaccination card and I drove off with a free fucking donut! Made my day. And will make every day I get close to that place for the rest of 2021. I get a free donut every single day. I have loved Krispy Kreme since I was a little girl, but even more today.

It was too spicy for me. Way too spicy actually but the beef was so good and the onions had the perfect crunch to them. And the pork eggrolls were outstanding. I will order something else next time but there will be a next time.

We don't have a Krispy Kreme anywhere near us so I'm unlikely to ever take advantage of it until I get to Seattle. But I think it is a pretty smart piece of marketing on their part.

The food even looks spicy.

The meal looks absolutely delicious ๐Ÿ˜‹ And what a great idea Krispy Keene came up with. Show proof that you had your shot and get a free donut. They have to be the best donuts of all time.๐Ÿค—

That food looks so good. It sounds like it's worth it to get it again but request 'no hot/spicy peppers'.

Oh they messed up! I should have realized that you would have covered instructing them in advance. Not sure what I was thinking. ;)

Or their idea of "not spicy" is different from Susan's. I've observed that pretty much every Asian restaurant has its own calibrations, and there's wild variation. I can order "moderately spicy" at one restaurant and get completely bland food, and then another place when I say "medium" it turns out to be about as hot as I can stand (this is more likely to happen in California than in Boston, where they tend to assume that Americans don't like spice, no matter what we say we want).

I wish that I could take advantage of the Krispy Kreme offer, but alas, no Krispy Kremes around here.

I've gone in for free hot glazed donuts, and I've seen how many get thrown out at the end of the day. Makes me wonder how Krisly Kreme stays in business. In the early 2000s they had a boom, then at least half those locations closed. I know 2 locations, both are about 30 min away, but once in a while, they are worth the drive.

I always thought that lots of their stores closed because around that time is when everyone went crazy with those no carb diets. When people felt comfortable eating food again, they came back slowly. Haha

I was working at Starbucks during the Atkins diet fad, making people sugar free vanilla, heavy cream lattes, and trying not to barf.

I think they might have healthy profit margins because, in part, carbs are so cheap in the U.S. Just a guess.

Did you hear that story on KUOW recently about Main Street in Chinatown? One of the people they interviewed was the owner of the Japanese restaurant Maneki. She mentioned that they kept the board on their windows for the same reason, and she was lamenting about how dark it was inside the restaurant and that she didn't even know if the windows were dirty.

1 Vaccination Donut, please. Haha. Best thing on LJ all day.

Oh! That Chinese looks really good. For me, the spicier the better. I donโ€™t eat red meat so i would have it with chicken or pork, but I would be sorely tempted if someone set that in front of me. The chinese restaurant that I have been patronizing exclusively since 1983, succumbed with the pandemic. Very upsetting, because I have no idea where i will get food as good as they had!

Krispy Kremes are few and far between in NJ, but once I have both microchips I may avail myself of this offer.

Too bad about the excessive spiciness but at least it tasted good. And of course YAY for a free donut!

That's what our in-town Chinese place looked like before they purchased a whole building a few years ago. Their old place looked awful, but that was on their our local slumlord. But, their food was solid and you could see that they were indoor clean in the back. Now they have huge windows, still keep the place clean and it's much better.

Glad you got your Krispie Kreme! We don't have one nearby.

I don't think Krispy Kreme has shown up around here (MA is Dunkin's home territory, after all), which is just as well, since I shouldn't eat doughnuts whether they're free or not. (And actually, I don't care for them that much.)
