(For my birthday, I asked for Ask Me Anything Questions. I got so many wonderful ones. I'm answering them in entries from here until I get to the end. If you think of something you want to ask, just leave a comment or a note. Deadline is totally not a thing.)

How many of your LJ friends have you met in person, and which ones?

Gosh that’s a great question and I’m sure I cannot give a full and accurate answer mainly because I don’t remember, but I can tell you two very fun instances…

In 2007 [livejournal.com profile] unzeugmatic was a mutual friend picked up along the way. He lived, I think, in Michigan? Minnesota? Anyway, he sent me a note out of the blue saying he was going to be in Seattle. He was meeting his parents (who were in Chicago?) here for an architecture event of some kind and he wanted to throw a party so his parents could meet his Seattle friends. Could he please have it at my house? OF COURSE! He brought all the food and all the booze and did all the invites and it was a FABULOUS party! I had never met him or any of his friends (some LJ some not) before. So it was all particularly delightful.

One LJer I met because of that party was [livejournal.com profile] ljtourist who was invited but didn’t come - out of town? Somehow we hooked up after and while he’s abandoned LJ (as has Steven (unzeugmatic) Frank is a still a great good friend.

But even before then, [livejournal.com profile] pinkfish and FJ! who had been mutual friends for a long time (and were a couple then) had a party at their home in Oakland. I had a web cam or two set up in my living room for my Mom and they figured out how they could get the feed on their TV set so they “invited” me to the party! They could see me but I couldn’t see them. It was great fun anyway. I did meet each of them years later when they were no longer together.

[livejournal.com profile] rsc and [livejournal.com profile] jwg have been to Seattle and have been kind enough to include me in their visit several times… and I’m having brunch with [livejournal.com profile] seattlejo on Sunday.

I've met [livejournal.com profile] mhaithaca and [livejournal.com profile] misconduct and [livejournal.com profile] cinenaut and [livejournal.com profile] howeird and I’m surely leaving out some.

But I can tell you that before I joined LJ, I knew no one who used the service and the only LJer I knew before he started LJ is my brother ([livejournal.com profile] bill_schubert).

Thanks for the answer! That is quite a lot of LJ people you have met in person. I have met about 11 or 12 of my LJ friends. Many of those left LJ during the Great Facebook Exodus. Of the ones that are still active or semi-active here, I have met: [livejournal.com profile] kishenehn, [livejournal.com profile] basefinder, [livejournal.com profile] stormdog and [livejournal.com profile] arjenboorsma, who was a friend of mine in high school, the only LJ friend who knew me before LJ.

And I still fondly remember that meeting! :)

I think I've met somewhere around 40 LJ people in person over the years ... I'll have to try making a list one of these days.

A lot of the people I know/knew on LJ are gone now... either exclusively to Dreamwidth, or just to Facebook, or just plain gone. Certainly none of my fellow Australian LJ users are around here any more, except for old Friend Reynardo (who I knew even before LJ), occasionally cross-posting from DW... There used to be quite a few of us in Sydney & we'd meet up fairly regularly. I haven't met any of my UK Friends, but have met Kishenehn, Basefinder & PinkHalen in the USA. In fact I met all 3 of them at the same time... at Basefinder's wedding reception

[livejournal.com profile] unzeugmatic lives in Minneapolis. Steven and I were Lj friends and are in-person friends though I haven't seen him now in a couple of years. I've never taken him up on his invitation to explore Morris dancing. I've always wondered if [livejournal.com profile] rsc, [livejournal.com profile] jwg and [livejournal.com profile] unzeugmatic were connected through dance.

No, we actually know Steven through the old Usenet newsgroup soc.motss, which [livejournal.com profile] jwg and I got involved in long before we started dancing.

As [livejournal.com profile] mrdreamjeans noted, he lived (and still lives) in Minneapolis. His parents (now both deceased, alas), lived in New Jersey.

You're one of several people I've met in person after first "meeting" via LiveJournal! Hope to meet still more, though LJ activity has sure dropped off.
