It's Friday - I know because I just looked it up

Biggie is getting very bitey. The quick chomp and run but he breaks the skin and it hurts. It's got to stop. I have at least gotten so that I can usually tell when he's going to do it. I have squirt bottles everywhere and only squirt after the fact. But, today, we're taking a new tact. No more petting, no more walking over the keyboard, no more walking over the table. When he gets close I hold up the squirt bottle and he backs off.

It's not like he wants my attention because he bites and runs and does not stick around for attention. I do wonder if he needs another cat. A kitten? or a cat? I'm pretty sure I do not want another one, and what if it they don't get along?

He does not, at least so far, bite me at night and still snuggles up next to me nearly all night long. He does not, at least so far, bite me from his pod here on the couch. He does not, at least so far, run into the room and come bite me. There's usually a build up where he comes over and acts like he wants to be petted or hugged or somehow paid attention to. But, instead will bite and run. I've never had a cat who did this. Hopefully, he will undid this soon!

Just now he's sitting here, hopefully, feeling enough guilt to never bite me again!



Meanwhile, long sleeved shirt for me today. Ugh.

Today there will be bed shopping. Not buying. Shopping. I'm assuming my bed will fail again and as much as I liked Gary, I'm not sure I want to throw another $200 bucks at this bed. So I want to be armed with info. There are basically two bed shops in town. One is Mattress Firm which bought up all the rest a few years ago. They have a bunch of stores sprinkled all over town. My expectations are low. The other is the one that screwed me over last time. Not going back there.

Alternatively, there is a shopping area south of here that has so many options, I'm not going to even try that until after I try a Mattress Firm store. So today, I'll pop over to the closest one and just see what the deal is. And pick up some lunch while I'm out. That's enough excitement for me.

Oh the other excitement is that tonight is the first soccer game of the season (at the football stadium across the street) and there is a Mariner game (at the baseball stadium two blocks down). We might even have traffic issues in the neighborhood like the olden days! Both games have very limited attendance but I gather the soccer game is going to have some pregame stuff outside the stadium. They are going to block off the road at 4. That's the road my garage empties on to. I have a Let Me Through I live Here sticker but best money is to just not take the car out.

Tomorrow is Austin FC first ever soccer game. It is not local so we're not going but we are watching. It is televised.

Just a few kitty thoughts....

As far as kitties and biting go, there are, of course, many reasons. Sometimes I think biting is done because of overstimulation - at least from the cat's POV. They want it ... that ASK for it ... but at some point (and that point can come on suddenly) they don't, and biting kicks in. From your description, it sounds a little like that.

I think you also have a point about "kitty boredom," but, you're right, if kitties aren't siblings, it's a risk if they don't get along. I've done it before but I used sections of my house to separate them when necessary, and even then it could be a fail. I'm not sure you have that space and the ability to do that.

Oh -- FYI -- we purchased a mattress from "Sleepy's" which was bought up by Mattress Firm. We love it.

Your description of overwhelmed sounds trueish. Sometimes he seems to say
'stop it' and sometimes he seems to say 'hey, look at me!'

Oddly, every morning, the first thing we do is trim a nail. One nail and he gets a treat. He knows this and, if I forget, he bugs me until I remember. And he hates it! He squeals sometimes. But never once, has he bitten me during the clipping nor have I felt like he wanted to. Weird.

I've mostly been a cat person all my life. Impossible to figure them out behavior wise however.

Don’t buy a mattress that can’t be flipped is a good rule of thumb. We also went to a natural latex mattress years ago. Never looked back. Forget memory foam.

Instead of spray I use a can of compressed air, like for my PC. No mess. And after a couple of hits all I have to do is move my hand toward the can & the cats can't run away fast enough.
