Here we go again
Apr. 23rd, 2021 08:30 amAll was fine. Just fine. Until 1:43 am. Biggie got up and threw up. And this morning would not eat his treats. He's sleeping on the bed. Clearly we are going in for surgery number 4. I sent an email to the vet at 6 begging for them to do the surgery instead of sending me to the vet hospital. They open at 8 and, bless their hearts, they called me at 8:01. And told me to bring him in at 10. So now we wait.
I want them to do the surgery because they are so much better to deal with*. They don't use external stitches which means he really does not need the collar. And he'll get to come home tonight. And, frankly, they are way cheaper. Like about half the cost of the hospital. Last time they could not do it because they didn't have room on the schedule. That may be the case this time or something else. I can just hope they will. BUT, if not, emergency vet it is. That means he will probably be there until tomorrow.
At least this is not the unknown. And I have the time. And I have the money. But, damn.
*They do have one tech who, I swear, is afraid of cats. Unlike the rest, she is not particularly friendly or helpful. They put you in an exam room and then the tech comes in and gets the details and takes temperature, etc. Yesterday, I let Biggie out of his carrier and we waited for a fairly long while. Then the tech opened the door and, clearly frightened, said "put her back in the carrier - i'll come back when she's in there." and shut the door. It was not easy. She looked in once while I was still trying and did not even come close to offering to help. When he was finally in the carrier she came back in and muttered something about not wanting him to escape the room. I was initially annoyed and then figured hey, if your job is vet tech and you are afraid of half your patients, you've got more to deal with than I need to worry about. I do hope she has Fridays off.
I have a bag packed - kindle, ear buds, phone charger, spare battery, chap stick, etc. The vet's office is hot so I am dressed appropriately. I don't expect he's going to love getting back into the carrier but I don't think he's feeling good enough to give me much of a fight.
