As always Goodwill comes through. In spades. Check it out.

The little dinky basket in front has been replaced with one that is far bigger and far better ($5).

I was in the middle of designing straps to hang it from handle bars ... 2? one from each basket handle? One across? and trying to figure out how to attach it to itself... I dug through my handbag hardware/strap stash and found exactly what I needed - hardware attached - from some old bag. Not all hoarding is bad, children! It's perfect. Then I added a shoe string to one of those push things that hold hoodie straps together to the bottom there (you can't see it well but it's those short white strings at the bottom of the basket) for stabilization. I tested it by riding around the room. PERFECT.

AND it goes completely on/off easily and quickly. It makes the scooter too big to park in the garage with it on so it needs to come off when I get home.

The backpack on the back was a tough decision. I actually abandoned it initially $14. Really. The other backpacks were also really pricey. But this one... I went back. It's basically a sports duffle bag with opening at the top top, backpack straps, waist strap (which I did not notice til I got home) and a generous outside zipper pocket. And yet another zippered section on the bottom! Oh yeah baby.

I had to modify the straps so that they pull all the way out to go around the chair back but that was easy and fine. The waist strap is a natural and perfect stabilizer. And it's not stiff like a new one so it collapses on itself when empty. This makes it really so that I don't even need to take it off when not in use.

Here it is in the "garage". The front basket fits nicely in the foot well and the seat back folds down perfectly even with the backpack on.

I'm more than a little delighted with this solution. I love Goodwill!

Wow, that's one portable scooter! I can't believe how easily it fits in your closet. The ones I've seen are more like bumper cars with the sides cut out. They take up a ton of room.

Gah, so overawed by the scooter I forgot my original thought. When you mentioned storage yesterday I thought of a backpack, but I thought it might unbalance the scooter. Obviously you know how stable it feels and whether having something heavy in the front basket (in particular) is likely to destabilise it. I just wondered if that's why it came with minimal carrying capacity in the first place.

I wish that my mom would get a scooter, but she says that it would make her feel old. Thanks for the link!

Have you done a weight test on the basket and backpack? Too much weight in front will make in hard to drive/steer; too much in back will make you pop a wheelie like a dragster off the blocks.
