Swimming was much more natural this time after a break than others. It felt like I have been swimming every day. So that part was good. I did a half a mile and my pace was a hair better than my average according to Fitbit. But, over all, I'm going to give it a 6 out of 10. Maybe a 7.

The pool was not the crystal clear it used to be which is not horrible but not as nice, either.
The guys at the front desk were really great. They were helpful and attentive. They take reservations for today and tomorrow and that's it. They had no open slots for tomorrow. The 30 minute limit really sucks. BUT, the one to a lane is relaxed once you get to the pool. Today I could have stayed in for longer but didn't realize it until I was dry.

They do not require face masks if you have been vaccinated. They do not require any proof. So basically, if you are vaccinated even if only in your imagination, you can ditch the mask.

The main issue is getting there and back. It's 20 minutes - a very tedious 20 minutes. There are 4,896 traffic lights between here and there. If they are all red, it's 40 minutes. They are mostly not synchronized. Oh and there's a draw bridge so if it's up, you just park. It's not a fun trip there or back.

And my swim suit was done. The lycra was all stretched out and the elastic was a goner. I'm lucky it stayed on long enough for me to swim and make it to the showers. I donated it to their trash can. I wonder if my others are the same way. I do have fabric and elastic and pattern to make a new one so not a tragedy. More funny than anything else.

Weekends are not worth trying and Monday is a holiday but I might well just reserve a spot next week. Maybe. And then come here and bitch about the travel part of it.

I am glad I gave it a shot.

Now it's time to watch the sewing bee. Did not get to it this morning.

Yay, swimming!

IMHO figuring out how to mentally deal with the traffic is probably better than figuring out how to mentally deal without moving enough.

Heh, the elastic in my old suit also gave up the ghost first time out. Oops. Knew I needed a new one.

Is one swim each, once or twice a week, enough time for you to get your new swim suit made up and ready to go?

And, bless the one you've "retired and donated" for staying on you while you were, ah, "out of the locker room."
I once had a swim suit abandon me my upper torso to the water in a private pool in the building where I lived lo, those many years ago.
Could've been worse, no doubt, and at least the "incident" ended there.

I've made just one swimsuit in my life, and it took me more than an hour. Had only a straight stitch locking stitch machine, couldn't find proper swimsuit elastic, so I was making do at every turn, it seemed.

You must tell me your secret---please!

Veritably inconceivable: two side seams and then the elastic.

Gotta have a built-in bra, some of us do....

Oh---just had this thought: Did you design your suit and draft your pattern, yourself?

Never would have thought a couple of years back when seeing your daily swimming pic that it was soon to become a rarity. Frustrating driving so long for a short swimming slot, but on the other hand, swimming.

It always disappoints me when a swimsuit I love is no longer viable. I haven't been in the pool for a while, I wonder if any of mine have held up.

I need to order some new bathing suits and soon. The fabric and the elastic in my old suits are rapidly going bad.

I’m glad you got in. I can’t imagine ditching masks until vaccination rates are much higher. OTOH, maybe it will clean out the anti-masker gene pool a bit (with a sad cost to everyone else who can’t be vaccinated for good reasons, or whose vaccination doesn’t protect them from a variant).

It's probably a good thing we're not in charge of the world — LOL.

Hi Susan, were you listening to a book or a podcast during that swim commute? I thought maybe that would help. I'm team 'go-anyway' but seeing as you're the captain of both teams the decision is, of course, yours. But the joy on your face! Just saying. I'll just have to imagine your expression on that commute--it would probably change my vote, lol.
