Thank you, whoever invented poke

I was going to go out. To the Goodwill and then to a new (to me) teryiaki place. But then I decided to make a swimsuit instead. As I rounding the curve on finishing the suit, I decided to treat myself to delivery of a poke bowl from my favorite poke place. Just joy all around. Plus, I couldn't finish it so ... now I know what's for supper!!

The suit is done. It's a very simple pattern because it's not a lay on the beach and look for hot guys suit. It's a swim laps comfortably suit.





The button is the only flourish and, actually, it's really to help me tell the front from the back quickly and easily.

Now I'm all ready for tomorrow.

Biggie had a marvelous time in the sewing room. He stole my pen and then my scissors and then he just ran around like a crazy cat. Now he's sleeping it off here next to me.



I was reminded, though, of sitting on the sewing stool in a long dress working and having Biggie and The Smalls as kittens play under the 'tent' made by the dress. They were quite the pair but Biggie alone is quite the pair!

There are 3 lanes in the pool. My reservation is for lane 2. I can only hope that either lane 1 or 3 reservation is held by a monkey!

Did you make the swimsuits before you had a serger? Is it much more difficult without one?

Oh no — serger not a requirement at all. I use it today but really didn't need to. ANY stretch stitch will do. If I didn't use the serger, I'd use a narrow zig zag for the seams. It would work perfectly.

I attach the elastic to the wrong side with a wide zig zag. Then I fold the edge to the inside and go back over it with a 3 stitch zig zag. The End. Serger not required at all.

One thing I always forget and did today is that you are far better off with a special stretch needle in the machine. Mine kept skipping stitches until I remembered that — swapped out the needle and zero issues.

I have made bathers (swimsuits) in the past, and every time, I was outraged at how much they cost to buy when you need such a small amount of fabric and such a small investment of time to make one.

If you are fat, there are even bigger (pun!) issues. All suits for fat women have exceedingly uncomfortable panels and frills to disguise the fat. None do, but they all get in the way of swimming. PLUS, suits for fat women have gynormous bosoms made of wire and foam. If you remove the foam and wire, you are then left with a pocket across your chest big enough to pack a lunch in. Apparently there are not enough swimming fatties to support a performance swimwear line. So... I make my own.

great suit! I think that's so cool you can make your own bathing suits. I was lucky, I was able to find a large size suit that looked good on me and did not have those damn frills and wires, etc. (I don't even like bras with wires.)
