Here in Seattle, at least outside, we're about half masked and half not. Inside it depends on the rules of the house. Here in this building, they published the rules in last Friday's newsletter.

I could not parse this information at the time and still can't.

"Should I wear a mask or not on June 30th?

As we move to being fully vaccinated, the Board wants to consider the comfort of all residents of the association. The governor has stayed consistent that Washington will fully adopt masking guidance from the CDC. The Board asks that everyone that chooses to not wear a mask to do so in your honor in order to protect the health of all residents and guests. We kindly ask that everyone also respect any resident’s choice as a valid decision. If the state issues any changes, the association will revert back to recommending that all residents wear masks.

In addition, the association will still require that all vendors or workers at the association continue to maintain wearing masks until it is advised otherwise."

I'm guessing he means June 30th and beyond which is when the governor has said the state will open and not just on the day of June 30th.

This is the bit that has me head scratching "everyone that chooses to not wear a mask to do so in your honor in order to protect the health of all residents and guests."

I waited a few days to see if there would be some clarification but, nope. In practice I'd say half of the people I see in the building are wearing masks and half are not. I always wear mine - with a button that says I'm vaccinated. But, twice now, I've had unmasked people hold back on getting into the elevator with me saying things like "I'll let you take that one and wait for the next." When I allow that I'm happy to share, they hop in. It's all very comfortable.

The county says no masks starting today. The state says no masks starting tomorrow (or they have said they will say that). I believe that the CDC says basically use your best judgement if you have been vaccinated.

The condo says... whothefuckknows??

Yeah, this is clearly the problem across the country. Language parsing. In the red states it is no better, just more people ignore any rules there are. We're going to more events but are increasingly in the very minor minority who wear masks.

The sentence that you are having trouble with is definitely a head scratcher. I read it 3 times before giving up and reading the rest of your post...haha

It is one of those collections of words where every individual one is easily understood — but put them together and they are basic gibberish....

Same here! I think they mean something like “on the honor system”?? Like unvaccinated people please wear them, but obvs we can’t check your cards?

I heard someone say today that it’s supposed to be like vaccinated people don’t need to wear masks and unvaccinated people do, but in the real world, it’s the vaccinated people who continue to wear them, while the unvaccinated don’t.

I TOTALLY agree with that-masked people are more likely to have already had their vaccines.

I think they meant that you should wear masks around other people just out of respect for them....... but the wording is truly terrible. And that's not in accord with the CDC recommendations right now, which say vaccinated people just don't need to wear masks (unless there is some extraordinary circumstance of high risk).

That's nice that they hold back on the elevator unless you say it's okay.

What a strange and vague statement to make. A simple yes or no would have been better.

Yeah, that isn’t a very clear message…

I'd be head scratching over that sentence, too ... It makes no sense. It appears the writer was trying to elevate the sentence's emotional impact and instead used the wrong language. I'll be flying on Sunday and will be masked, as required.

I've been living in a bubble in my building. 99% of us are fully vaccinated and life is fairly normal. I just avoid the one guy in the building who politicized it and didn't get vaccinated. Our mask mandate was lifted in May.

Interesting. My friend's condo never had any rules about masks in shared areas, and he said that almost no one was ever wearing a mask.

Very badly written "guidance".

I can't make sense of the sentence in question, but it looks like the intention is to say "Wear a mask or not as seems appropriate to you, and please respect others' choices if they happen to be different from yours".

Or maybe I'm just thinking that's what they should say.
