Separating

I have a real hard time separating red/white/blue and country music glory to America and flag waving from the skin heads and gun rights advocates and all those who stormed the capital last January. Plus, I'm not a holiday kind o' girl so the 4th of July is, to me, is just one day before the 5th when I've got a year before I have to listen to this shit again.

The Pride flags and music and shenanigans were so much more fun.

When the Mariners hit a home run they shoot off fireworks at the stadium which usually I can hear. Last night's game was rather a fiasco. I wasn't even paying attention really and had the sound muted. Every time I heard a firecracker I looked up in hopes it was a home run. It wasn't. Stupid 4th of July.

Biggie let me trim a couple of his nails this morning. He wasn't thrilled but he was happy for the treats.

I opened a drawer in the kitchen just now and saw a bread bag and immediately thought Bird Shroud. Fortunately, I haven't needed such a thing so far this morning. But, he's out there trying. Since he needs to be near the wall to get the birds, he's ignoring his tree. The Biggie daily photo may well end up being a six month project instead of a year. Sigh.

I graduated from collage 50 years ago. Yesterday I got a nicely crafted 3 page letter outlining all the festivities and details about the reunion. Where to stay, where to eat, events planned/suggested for the weekend. The committee of 6 who put it all together were people I actually remembered. I thought it was a bit late to be 1) hearing about this now and 2) holding a reunion - aren't those usually done during the June graduation weekend? I read the thing all the way through two times because I missed when it was. Turns out, they neglected to mention that little detail. Oh well. I hope they have a fab time. Old people party.

Today's plans are baseball game, knitting and hopefully no bird burials.

My schools like to do reunions around homecoming, usually in sept. My 30 year high school reunion is (maybe) going to be this year, some people are kicking around the idea. My general feeling is if I'm not still in touch with you, I don't have a burning urge to ever see you again. One of my high school friends has said that he would like to go, and MAYBE if either he wouldn't have anyone else to go with, I'd go for his sake, but otherwise... nah.

Also, agree with you 100% on the 4th of july stuff.

The only good thing about last night's game is that it looks like Kyle Seager is coming out of his slump.

IMO, the trumpsters have hijacked the flag, flag-waving, country music, and the word "patriotism." Kinda sad, really.

My 50th college reunion is next year. They are combining 1970, '71 and '72 50th reunions next June -- all because of Covid restrictions. I may go. We went to Ray's in 2018 and had a fun time - lots of people he remembered. That's funny they forgot to post the DATE of your reunion! LOL. Interesting lapse!

The only way you could get me to go to my college reunion is with an atom bomb.

Yeah, very much same. Plus it's hard to be proud to be an American while some people are making such a visible effort to bury or at least underplay the seedier aspects of our history. I love holidays myself but the Fourth has been more and more of a bummer.

Good job on the nails Biggie! Maybe the birds will get smarter and he will give up? Who am I kidding? They are birds.

I went to part of my 50th college reunion (the fact that I didn't have to travel was a big plus), having really enjoyed my 25th, but I was disappointed; I barely got to see any of the (not that many) people that I would have liked to reconnect with, a schedule conflict kept me from going to the only event in the run-up to the big Commencement foofaraw that really interested me, and it was the end of May with really gorgeous weather, and I really needed to be working in the garden. My only regret is that, as a result of blowing off the last two days and thus not going to Commencement, I missed hearing John Lewis speak.

My high-school 50th was another story. The class was only about 100 people, so I actually knew everybody, and I enjoyed reconnecting with quite a few people (and have remained in contact via Facebook). I was thinking of going to my 55th, but didn't get my act together; I think I'd like to go to my 60th (three years hence).
