Today has been another good one. We started with breakfast at 13 Coins. I used to love this place and then a few years ago, they just tanked. The food was not that great. The service was horrible and it was just icky. Bill suggested we give it another try and I'm so glad we did. The food was great, the service was good and it's all clean an shiny now. So yeah!!

We ran more errands and then Bill had a Zoom meeting so back here. After his Zoom meeting we went to Seattle Edge and bought me knives. I have two wonderful knives that I'm always afraid to use because I don't know how to sharpen them. And the rest of my knives are cheapo that don't cut.

Madeleine was the perfect knife hostess. We learned a lot about knives and I bought two. I'm so excited to cut! They are backlogged on sharpening now but in a couple of weeks, I'll take my two big ones in for sharpening. She said to hone them every 3 or 4 uses and then bring them in for sharpening every year/year and a half. I can sure do that.

Tonight we are off to El Gaucho. This used to be a wonderful place and then it got kind of groddy and then they closed it and moved it and opened up more restaurants. I'm hoping it's wonderful. The menu sure looks delicious.

Biggie no longer sleeps with me, but apparently, slept with Bill most of the night last night. He's also eating much better (Biggie, that is... well, actually Bill's eating nicely too).

The menu for El Gaucho looks wonderful. I'd be perfectly willing to go for the dessert section alone. 😋

I am enjoying your fun with Bill. The restaurants, and terrace, and now the knife place.

Dang it looks like every fire truck in the city is in your neighborhood right now. On 4th. At least it looks like they got the fire out already: http://www2.seattle.gov/fire/realtime911/getRecsForDatePub.asp?action=Today&incDate=&rad1=des

Which 13 Coins? I love the one by SeaTac, was taken there mumble mumble years ago by big sister's high school friends, and it's my go-to place to meet Poulsbo sister.

Good knives are a joy! I have got a couple of every day knife sharpeners that work fairly well, but actually the best one is the one built into one of my chopping boards! We have noticed that there is a knife-sharpening booth at the Gloucester farmers' market, and we keep meaning to bring some of our old knives to see if they can be significantly improved, but we also keep forgetting to actually bring them.

A restaurant can change character completely if even one person changes, especially the chef or the manager.

A good knife or two are kitchen essentials, and properly maintained and cared for can give you decades of cooking pleasure, they make such a difference. I'm so glad for you that you've met your Madeleine!
