At my age, I assume my hearing isn't as sharp as it once was. I sometimes can't hear the voices on the TV clearly but I recently tweaked my settings and now I do not miss much plus I always have captions on. Recently I learned that the hearing aid people at Costco will give you a free hearing test. So... I called and made an appointment. The woman I talked to was not very welcoming - more like condescending. And before the test, I need to go to my doctor and get my ears cleaned of wax. (Or, she finally noted, when pressed, I could get something at the drug store to do the job. ?? Big leap there from doctor visit to OTC.)

The more I thought about the whole thing, the less interested I was. They sent me an online test which, not surprisingly showed moderate hearing loss. Doh. They sell hearing aids.

I'm not going to buy a hearing aid. IF I have hearing loss, it is not enough to negatively affect my life. Who do I want to hear anyway? If/when I can no longer understand enough of the TV to enjoy it, maybe but really... If the test shows I have great hearing then fine. If the test shows I do not have great hearing, I'm not going to 'fix' it in any way. So why bother?

I canceled the appointment. If you want me to hear you, don't mumble.

I slept great last night and my sleep tracker agrees. Personal best sleep score. I dreamed that Biggie got a job at a mall catching bugs and other things. He loved the job and his bosses loved him.

But this morning, he's back here on bird duty.

I need to get my ass off this couch. I could easily sit here all day again today and knit and watch M5 save the world from whatever. I still have 4 series of episodes to go. But, I think I'm going to leave them on their own this morning and go to Factoria. Factoria (Washington state does some weird town names, Factoria, Federal Way... weird) and go to the new Amazon Fresh store. I'm tired of waiting for the one here to open. It's only about 15 minutes from here but a difficult 15 minutes. There's a Walmart in the same shopping center and I might pop into there. I don't really need anything at either place except to get off the couch. Oh I do need to get gas, my tank is nearly half empty!

No baseball today.

My PCP told me I had wax in my ears. Then a year later he told me again. In between the times I'd used OTC ear wax remover several times but the one thing you can not see is wax in your ears. I tried again w/ Debrox and it seemed to make it worse. So I made an appointment with the Scott and White ear doc. She pulled out more wax than I would have thought possible and it made a big difference. Subsequent hearing test said I was old.

Having someone dig around in my ear was disconcerting and a little painful. It made me very nervous. Since then I've used Debrox frequently and am trying to keep up.

One huge benefit is that changing altitude in a plane did not effect me at all. No ear popping. They equalized much easier. This has long been an issue for me back to my SCUBA days so I'm thinking I should have let someone go digging around long ago.

I'd do it again but would never settle for anyone other than a specialist PA or Doc.

I had to go to a doctor for an ear infection once and she promptly ruptured my other eardrum. After I had damn near begged her to leave my other ear alone.

That's annoying that she was condescending to you.

OMG, you cracked me up about the Biggie dream. I can just see it though. Maybe you could rent him out for pin money! 😂

That is the perfect job for him! I can see him now all dressed up in a suit and tie carrying his briefcase filled with items to help him with his job.

Lol.

A lot of my career was testing audio quality, so I had my hearing tested every year. For cleaning, they use a device like a weak waterpick with warm water and in 20 minutes I'm all good.
The test measures volume and frequency. Most men lose all hearing above 15KHz by age 40. Most women don't. Men and women both have a hard time pulling a signal out of the noise as they get older. Modern hearing aids are more about that issue than they are about volume. Hearing aids might help you while shopping and while watching baseball (crowd noise).

That should be our household motto.
