Last year, [livejournal.com profile] ljtourist gave me a Bonne Maman Advent calendar... a box of tiny jars of 24 different jellies and jams. I loved it the day I got it and many, many days since. Today I reached into my Bonne Maman basket and picked up a new one and now there are only 4 jars left.

I like only a little sweet on my toast. One little jar can last me 3 or 4 breakfasts. This morning's was Mandarin Spread - a good one. But, then, they are all great. I only had one that I did not like on toast. It turned out to make an amazing peanut butter and jelly sandwich, tho.

I just noticed a feather - small, gray - on the living room floor. It was not there yesterday. I'm not giving this any more thought.

Today is a baseball day. So I had a late breakfast and that will be it until I tuck into tonight's fabulous buffet. I need to save myself. Also I need to buck myself up. Last night's game was a killer. They should have won. They had plenty of chances to win. They passed up on all those chances. I am pissed but also, as [livejournal.com profile] kensmind so kindly put it, heartbroken. These guys have a chance to make the playoffs. You know they want to. They have to want to and yet, they keep shooting themselves in the foot. Maybe my being their tonight will be just the thing they need to get right again.

I need to charge up the scooter and pick out a shirt. I think I have one good one left that I haven't worn yet this year. It's also one good for very hot weather which tonight will be. I have a ticket to Saturday night's game as well so I need to do some wardrobe planning.

But, it's only 10 and I won't leave here until 4:45 so I've got some time... time to pick up and dispose of that feather.

Me too. Alas, I have given up jam as a part of my half-hearted attempt to limit my carbs.

Such a pity!

Can you not figure a way to limit carbs and have some jam, too? ---You do say "limit," and not "eliminate."

When I first lived out on my own, which means with no roommate to share expenses with, I had to do a lot of limiting.
I allowed myself a little bit of jam, fruit jelly or preserves on a homemade biscuit (in the American use of "biscuit," like a scone) at the end of dinner. That was my dessert. "A little bit" was less than a measuring teaspoonful, perhaps only half a teaspoonful; just enough to get the taste and a teensy bit of sweetness.

It used to be our practice to finish off lunch with a few crackers with jam on them. I decided that an easy way to cut down on carbs (our lunches and breakfasts tend to be carb-heavy anyway) with relatively little pain was to eliminate this step, avoiding both the crackers and the jam.

I bow to your self-knowledge and self-awareness, as well as to your wisdom about what works best for you.

The Jays last year drove me crazy with their loading the bases (usually with 2 outs) and not getting a single run across. They've been a lot better this year, but yesterday played a double header vs the Angels. In the first game, that happened. Loaded the bases and Springer struck out. Not a single run. They ended up losing that one (but won the 2nd game).

The Red Sox have been doing a lot of that kind of thing over the last month. (Not so much last night, where we got to watch them – in person – score 20 runs against the Rays.)

Maybe. It seemed especially so when the Sox took advantage of a catcher pressed into pitching duties to score 6 runs in the 8th, but I felt a little different when the Sox' pitcher for the 9th, usually pretty effective in limited use, gave up 7. (Mostly I was thinking – and saying – "Get some outs already so we can get out of here.")
