Feet

My feet got all swollen. They were already dry and a little cracked from going barefoot all the time and just being ignored. Then the cracks got bigger and bleedy and hurty so I started paying attention.

I started sleeping with my feet elevated. And then I started layering on the cream and wrapping them in plastic for a 30 mins or an hour, always keeping them lotioned up and covered. Washing and drying them carefully and then coating them in lotion again and always socks. 24/7.

The swelling went down substantially. And the really bad cracks healed and the rough scaly spots started to smooth over. And then... this morning... the itch. Yep. Now I have athlete's foot! And the cure? keep skin, particularly between toes, dry and air out feet as much as possible. No coverings at all. Ha!

My feet and I need to sit down and have a heart to heart.

Fortunately, it really doesn't matter. I can still do the treadmill and I don't need to go anywhere that requires shoes and socks. My feet needs are few at this point.

Today will be Kitchen Organization Day. I have decided, I think, what needs to go where and so I'll be moving shit around and tossing stuff out and just generally making the space more better. I really do have an incredibly functional kitchen with a ton of counter space. It's not a chef's kitchen but it would make any cook happy. It makes me happy, too!

The baseball game is at 1. We've had three losses in a row and I'm over losing. I'd like to win today.

I have January-May done on my temperature blanket. I have June and July mapped out and will soon add August. I will need to put it away while I collect more days but it's a pleasing project that I will have no trouble picking up again.

Biggie brought in a bird still chirping at 5 pm last night. He's been cutting back lately and he's always before caught them in the morning. This year I'll be doubly glad to see those fucking leaves go. Not only will I get to see my neighbors again but I will get a vacation from bird body burials.

And more Biggie. He's, once again, decided pill pockets are not good. But, now he's given up on cheese, as well. He loves the creamy treats and licks them up... all but the pill. So today it was Shove It Down His Mouth day - not a fun time for either of us. I guess I'll start mashing them up and mixing them in that cream treat stuff.

I think I'll finish up my coffee and get to work.

Please get some of that medicine you spray on for athlete's foot. I had a very bad case of it once and it helps.

Giving cats pills is a pain. Hopefully he decides not to give you too much trouble.

I have struggled with athlete's foot for 50 years. I first picked it up in high school, probably from the showers in the school gym. For many people it is not curable, but it is manageable. Every day, before I put on socks, I sprinkle Gold Bond foot powder (blue plastic bottle) on my feet. When I am having an active breakout, like yesterday, I put Lamisil cream on my feet before bed, and also use the powder during the day. I use the Lamisil as a treatment, and the Gold Bond powder as preventative maintenance. This system has worked well for me for 10+ years. Good Luck!

You're welcome!

Dry skin and cracking/peeling can also be symptoms of athletes foot. I think that many of the antifungal creams will work. I only get breakouts: itchy, burning, red bumps between and on the toes a few times per year, always in the summer.

I was surprised to learn that from my podiatrist. She had taken care of my ingrown toenail, then told me that what I thought was dry cracking skin on my heels was athlete's foot and to get an anti-fungal spray. I'm not sure she's correct. What confuses me is that I rarely wear shoes. In the winter I wear shoes only outside and only sandals in the summer. I thought athletes foot was caused by sweat and dampness and the inability of the skin to breathe. If you don't wear confining shoes, you wouldn't have that situation.

As someone who walks and rides her bicycle in the rain, and spent many a workdays in soggy sneakers, I can tell you that the best thing ever is thick lotion with tea tree oil. Sometimes I find a lotion I like and just mix the oil in with it.

If you use the Desitan spray for athletes foot be sure to spray the inside of your shoes! I have never had again.

Did the still-chirping bird survive?
