I left cookies out on the counter.
I put cookies in hard plastic airtight
I put cookies in glass airtight
I put cookies in tin box airtight

This morning, they all had the same texture EXCEPT the ones in glass! The glass ones had a better snap. The other ones had good snap but glass was best. Interesting!

Also, interesting. That quick and dirty icing I made yesterday is excellent!! It tastes fine and gets a nice thin crust so cookies can be stacked without icing harm. And it was so easy! Powdered sugar in a bowl and then a tiny bit of milk. Stir. Add milk in tiny bits until it's the consistency you want. I added a tiny bit of vanilla as well.

Next time there will be piping.

Biggie slept with me again and we slept great. It was a little too warm but otherwise perfect. Today, however, I think we go back to a/c for a few days. The forecast calls for 80's tomorrow and Saturday. 80's it too hot back in that bedroom.

I had planned to stay inside forever or at least until the governor lifts the mask mandate indicating it is safe again. We aren't even close. The numbers of cases, hospitalizations and deaths is still rising around here. But, I'm going to Goodwill anyways because I wanna and they have lots of potential cookies jars there.

My next Mariner game is on the 13th and I'm already wondering about going. If the mask mandate is still in place, I probably won't. I so wish they would require proof of vaccination. I know they won't but I do wish. There's time enough to worry about that later, Scarlett.

No baseball at all today.

I got a quote from a plumber in my email. It was a quote plus an invoice. He charged $100 to review the situation and then outlined fixes to various critical issues to the tune of $8,000+ The + is because there is also a problem with the water line from the city that he cannot give an estimate on without city input. Fortunately, he intended this to go to the Susan Dennis in Arizona. The one I got all the real estate purchase documents for not long ago. Ooops - on so many levels. After he sent the second one, presumably when she said she did not get the first, I sent him a note explaining that she did not give him the correct email address and I had no clue what it was. I did not hear back so I'm guessing he got the fix. As I recall she did buy the house with no inspection which I thought at the time was a mistake but, since I didn't have her email, I couldn't share my opinion. Boy, is she sorry about that now!

Last time I was at the pet food store, they gave me some treats for Biggie. They always send me home with a couple of little packs of treats. And he always loves them. Always. He knows the look and crinkly sound of the little packets and gets all excited. Until... this last time, they sent me home with a packet called 'wellness treats'. Dried salmon and cranberries. I've tried to give them to Biggie twice now. He's hilarious with his NFW. 4 paws down on those babies. I think they must be kale of kitty treats.

Ok, time to get dressed and go try not to get a virus. Even at Goodwill prices, that would not be a good deal.

You had me going with the plumbing. I'd never, ever buy a house without an inspection now days. The field has changed and they are so thorough. Glad your plumbing is not screwed up.

Good to hear about the cookies. Such a nice thing to be able to easily make yourself instead of having to buy.

I wonder how a ceramic cookie jar would do. I imagine Goodwill has some of those, too.

It went to Lopez. Wish I'd grabbed it when I had the chance.

Wow, does that ever stir up things. I can feel it. Ours had a little chip (no doubt my doing) in his hat.

How busy is your Goodwill? I was in Silverdale yesterday and thought about ducking in, but there was a line of cars dropping off donations going back to the street and the lot was full besides.

Cookie jars really are ideal for this sort of thing.

The sad thing though, is that I've noticed that a lot of cookies with the right ratio of sugar and butter just naturally soften over night. The sugars just seem to break down in the butter.

What's funny is that my favorite peanut butter cookies that I make always get soft overnight if I leave them out on a plate, but stay crisp for a whole week if you put them in a air tight plastic box.

Now to get a bit metaphysical on you... I must warn you of this power you are opening up in yourself. Once you have the ability to easily make cookies and treats in your own kitchen, and tend to keep the ingredients on hand, you are never safe from cookies. Before it was easier because laziness might prevent you from acquiring cookies from the outside world, but now nothing will stop you. If you want a cookie, you just make a cookie. Be careful.

I don’t think cats would like cranberry treats. Dogs, maybe, but not cats.

Re the icing — we wouldn't even bother using milk ; water icing is fine and has always been the basic go-to here for cakes and cookies. Although if you want a really crisp icing for cookies we would make royal icing — and these days we can even buy the icing sugar with dried egg white built in so all we have to do is add water!

Your storage experiment is very informative I usually put mine in a tin or a plastic box — perhaps I should look for a glass container to match my tea/coffee/sugar ones.
