There was almost no one in Goodwill this morning which was lovely. And I scored big.

They did have a lot of cookie jars BUT they all had small openings which I think is not practical and then I happened on this one (far left). It looks like a paint it yourself pottery situation and I love it.

Then next is a lovely and perfectly sized tin. Then a glass option with a very tight seal.

And on the far right is my new cake storage. The blue plate is the one I already had but it is now sitting on a absolutely perfectly sized turntable!!! $2. What are the chances of that even being a thing?? The bowl upside down make a lovely cake dome. Total bill $18. I am one happy camper.

Now I have to decide what to bake next. Cookies or cake?

In other news. The county just announced mandatory mask wearing for all large outdoor activities including all sports events (it was recommended and ignored before). About fucking time. Still looking for proof of vaccine, tho.

Nice scores! I really should go to my Goodwill more often. Its about a mile away and a convenient busline stops right outside the door. “should” being the key word. But since I didn’t, I ordered and just received from Amazon this amazing Japanese pastry roller made out of solid marble. Haven’t even used it and I’m already in love with it. I hope this baking energy is a long term thing otherwise its destined to be buried in my “baking drawer”. (I think it will be long term though.)

PS. How about cookies AND cake? Just saying….

Did someone say "cookies"?

CAKE!!!!???

LOL

I'm pleased you're having some sense reintroduced to large gatherings... we're having a terrible time down here in Sydney, and that's even with super severe restrictions such a lockdowns, curfews, permits to leave your local area, authorised worker letters, you name it...

I am so happy about the outdoor mask mandate with large groups of over 500!

I believe they are talking about requiring vaccination proof for any travel...out of state, bus, train, plane. It has been so crazy busy, I'm not sure where that is.

I'm stunned at how many state employees are walking. As close to retirement as I am, I would stay and get the vaccination, if I felt differently, but there are many who will walk away from a state job. Not a brilliant job, but excellent benefits.

My mom used to bake sugar cookie at Christmas. Each cookie would get a hole made in the top and we would ice, decorate, thread them and hang them on the Christmas tree. The icing was the confectioner sugar icing you described, white, but with sprinkles. We were very extravagant decorators.

As a young adult I asked my mom for her sugar cookie recipe, expecting to have her pull out an aged, stained recipe card. She referred me to The Joy of Cooking sugar cookie recipe.

Later in life when I shared the tradition with an acquaintance and mentioned 'sprinkles', she said, 'Oh, you mean dragees.'

No, honey, I mean sprinkles.
