Turns out none of the storage options was a real fail. I tried a cookie out of each and they all still had snap! I did cook this batch longer - 12 minutes at 400 so started out snappier but really, glass, tin, ceramic... they all work!

I slept a little later than usual this morning and evidence suggests that Biggie had an early morning poultry breakfast. There were a few feathers in the hallway outside the bedroom. Ugh.

Last night I watched the "local" news on the nbc affiliate and on the cbs affiliate. (Each has a couple of hours every night but most of it is not local news - I just fast forward through those bits so it takes me 10, maybe 15 minutes to get all the local TV news every night.) Anyway both covered the Washington State Fair is is somehow allowed to go on. They are required to require masks but otherwise, come get yer coronovirus, a corndog and ferris wheel with a single ticket!! nbc reported that most everyone was in compliance wearing masks. cbs reported that very few people left their masks on after they entered the gates.

I have 2.5 things to do today that do not involve baking. I need to make a trip down to the dumpsters. I've got garbage. And, I have two things to return to the Amazon hub. I'd love to switch the return to Whole Foods but that's apparently not in their system. Because the next thing is a trip to Whole Foods. I'm still in search of great orange juice that does not involve my squeezing anything.

I could buy a squeezer and oranges but I don't want to give up any more counter real estate and I want juice always ready in the fridge. I am a by the gulp orange juice drinker. I'll stop by the fridge once or twice a day and just down a shot of the stuff. I don't want to stop, get an orange, make a mess... etc. So the search continues. I got some VERY excellent stuff at the Amazon Fresh store in Factoria. Way too far to go regularly. I'm hoping maybe Whole Foods has it.

I may roll out the rest of the cookie dough today. I will probably knit and watch TV. I will watch the baseball game. And who knows what all else.

Another HEB win. They always have fresh squozed orange juice just inside the front door. I get it as a special for Dana and swig some myself occasionally. It is a luxury.

I doubt you'll find any bottled OJ that's anywhere near as good as fresh-squeezed. I haven't tried buying fresh-squeezed in quantity¹ (we squeeze our own), so I don't know how well it keeps (Bill?).

¹By which I mean, I have ordered it when eating breakfast out while traveling, but never bought it to take home.

We have an electric squeezer, of the type where you place a half-orange (cut-side down) over the business end and push down, which causes the mechanism to spin.

Yes, we get our oranges at the grocery; the idea of a Whole Foods without oranges puzzles me greatly.

Oranges/glass depends on how big and juicy the oranges are (they're very variable) and what size glass you're talking about. :-) I aim for about 6 ounces total (4 for [livejournal.com profile] jwg, 2 for me, as part of my carb-limiting efforts), which usually requires an orange and a half (the remaining half is saved in a zip-lock bag for the next day), although with some extra-large oranges one is sufficient, and with smaller or more thick-skinned ones it might take two. (And no, I don't know how thick the skin is until I cut it open.)

By the way, although I said "we" above, for some reason [livejournal.com profile] jwg has decided that squeezing oranges is an onerous task, and he will only do it once a month (by convention, on the first day of the month); the rest of the time it's my job, no matter who else is preparing the rest of breakfast. Once a week or so, when all the other breakfast work has been done before I make it to the kitchen, he'll halve and section a grapefruit; I once observed that this actually seemed to be more work than squeezing oranges, which he agreed is actually the case, but this is one of many instances where "principle" outweighs logic.

Oh, Biggie.

Baking sounds like a lovely way to spend the day, especially when you have lots of yummy cookies at the end :)

Interesting about the fair. Really not surprised people are taking their masks off as soon as they get inside.

I went to the fair today and a 5K run. We don't wear masks outside in Maine.

I'm really hoping that we can gain some ground with the six games against the Diamondbacks. The first one had me worried, but was glad to see us come back. I'm really hoping we can bring our A game when we play the Astros and the Red Sox (not to mention the A's down the road.)
