Twenty first day of September

Biggie is back to sleeping with me again and he's now taking credit for my high sleep scores. 95's and 96's out of 100. I'm not sure he should get credit but, whatever. I'm grateful for excellent sleeps.

FedEx says my recliner is being delivered today. I'm in a believe it when I see it mode. But, I am ready.

I do need to find a new book. While I appreciate a good accent - particularly Scottish or Irish, the reader of the new Denise Mina book is just too much. I have to run captions so I'm reading as she's talking and even then can't keep up. The story didn't grab me enough for that kind of action. So... time to move on to the next one. I just need to find that next one.

We have a couple of days, today being one, where the high temps are back in the 70's. Unacceptable. Yes, laugh, you people who live where 70's is chilly. If I wanted that kind of hot weather, I'd move. My sweet spot is anything below 70 degrees. At least my thermometer here next to my chair is still showing a very reasonable 70 degrees.

I need to get out and do my parking lot walk before the heat and before FedEx gets here. But, leaving here and heading across goes right into the sun this time of day. So, I think I'm going to walk around the block instead. I can do that mostly in the shade which is way better.

Nothing else much of note around here at least so far today. But, heck, it's early yet!

I am listening to Finley Donovan Is Killing It by Elle Cosimano. It's a mystery with quite a bit of humor thrown in. I am about halfway through and am really enjoying it.

I used to work on a help desk for The Big Clam oil company. Got a call from a woman in Glasgow once. She left a message. A long rambler too.

"Halloo Thom, This is Fiona with the glasgow helpdesk, an' I've go' a user here that canna tsdjjfhdadasgldfsalyuy;xhdsdfasfglcfj. Around four minutes of complete gobledy gook! And I lived in the north of Scotland when I was a kid! No one in the office here in houston could make anything of her message.

I finally sent her a messenger message and we managed to get the thing done that way. English! Pshaw!

That's what this book sounded like! if I was sucked into the plot, I might have slowed down the playback and tried harder but too many good books to read.

Somewhere around 50 years ago, during a visit to Edinburgh for the Festival, I took a couple of half-day coach tours through the countryside. I don't remember any details of where they went or what we saw; what I do remember is that on one of them, the driver/guide's accent was so thick that I couldn't understand a word he said, and on the other one the guy's English was as clear as a bell as he described what we would have been seeing if everything had not been wrapped in impenetrable fog.

Scottish accent. Ive been listening to a Scots accent daily for 23 years now……the crazy thing is I don’t even notice it anymore. I wonder if I’ve picked up the accent from him now and haven’t realized it. 🙂

I'd laugh when you say that some call 70s chilly, except that I did spent 7 years in Houston where I legit saw people wear WOOL SWEATERS when it was 70 degrees.

(Also where--I still am pissed about this--my kid got held in from recess in kindergarten one day because it was 57 degrees AND SUNNY and he didn't have a jacket to wear. That's because...IT WASN'T FUCKING COLD. So not only did he miss recess but he thought he was in trouble. Grrrr.)
