Biggie is doing fine. Last night he spent most of the evening in the half bath on the floor. No idea why. I'm not sure he's ever even been there before. But dark confined spaces seem to be his latest jam.
When I got ready to get into bed to read, I picked him up and carried him to the bed. I placed him next to me where he usually sits while I listen to my book and play on my tablet. After a few minutes it crawled right into my lap where he stayed until lights out.
He slept next to me for a couple of hours and then left. This morning I found him in the closet on the floor. I picked him up and carried him to food. He sniffed and walked back to his closet where he is still now 3 hours later.
I just took his food into the closet and put it down next to him and he immediately started eating. He who shall be served.
I am worried about the terrace. I have to be able to keep the door open when I want to. I may need to let him out. I've been looking at various options for that but right now, I've decided that I need a screen door. I would love to have a retractable screen door. But, I think they are about 5 times more expensive than a regular one. However they do come with installers!
Getting a door at home depot and bringing it here is a bit of a challenge in a smart car. Plus maybe I could install it but do I want to? Negative.
And, yet, a retractable screen door is going to wreck havoc with my air conditioner insert, I think. Maybe not. And/or maybe there's a work around.
I've spent the last couple of hours web researching/shopping for screen door installation. I've now request quotes from three places... let the games begin!!
Yesterday
mhaithaca asked me if I air fried my breakfast burritos. I'd never even thought of that. I always have nuked them and enjoyed their soft goodness. BUT, I do love crispy. So this morning, I took a burrito right from the cold fridge and popped it into the air fryer (in my case my toaster oven on air fryer setting) 400 degrees for 6 minutes. Perfect!! I think if I were going to do this a lot, I'd butter up the tortilla before I added the egg and cheese and stuff but it was pretty darned good and crispy. A nice Plan B!
I just checked on King Tut and he had eaten all but a tiny bit of his room service breakfast. I had given him a whole serving so this was the most he had eaten since surgery. I made up some more (pate watered down) and set it out for him in the living room. So far, while he's walked to his water fountain, he has not eaten anything that I have not put under his mouth. So next step is his finding/eating food. Before surgery, he ate on the kitchen counter so now finding is a thing. And finding the right height of the bowl. I have it now, perched on a box - same height as the water - in the path of the water. We shall see.
I might go to Goodwill to see if I can find a better food dish situation. Otherwize it will just be hanging here with the King.

The reason I nuke and then toaster-oven is that I want the middle hot. If air fryer for six minutes is accomplishing that on its own, woohoo! Even better.

Date: 2021-10-12 07:51 pm (UTC)We installed one on the sliding doors of our previous house and it was great. The magnets were strong enough to prevent our young (at the time) children from pushing through it, but it was very easy for an adult to go through. The installation is reasonably simple and you can take it down whenever you choose. (We would uninstall during the winter, and reinstall once the weather was warm enough.)

Date: 2021-10-12 07:58 pm (UTC)Would something like this work — https://www.amazon.ca/Apalus-Magnetic-Curtain-Bottom-Automatically/dp/B07D7CX489/ref=asc_df_B07D7CX489/?tag=googleshopc0c-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=292965257473&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9771409863154852200&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1001801&hvtargid=pla-473715653468&psc=1
I would think you could install it inside, so you wouldn't be contravening any condo rules. The magnet seam is strong enough that wind or even our young (at the time) kids couldn't open it easily, so I would think that Biggie wouldn't be able to push through without effort. We used to uninstall it in the winter and then reinstall it once the weather warmed up.

Date: 2021-10-12 08:04 pm (UTC)Honestly at this point just rigging him up like a window washer every time he goes out the cat door once he's healed and the weather is pleasant seems as feasible an option. If someone calls about a dangling cat, welp, you know he attempted flight again and was thwarted.
His new thundersticks are very adorable and I hope his paws heal very well, poor little muffin. He must be high as a kite still. It's nice that he's eating and drinking though. Always a very good sign.

Date: 2021-10-13 08:06 am (UTC)I'm glad to hear that the reincarnation of Wile E. Coyote seems to be healing. The magnetic screen that we have doesn't have the ability to keep the mosquitoes outside, so beware of the ones with the "as seen on TV" logo.
My vizualation of Biggie in the window washer rigging has him yodeling like George of the Jungle as he swings in his harness.
