I skipped the treadmill this morning. No reason except I am the boss of me and I didn't wanna. I laid in the dark and asked Echo to play NPR and listened to the morning news. It was pretty luxurious.

After years of listening for at least a couple of years a day and then fewer years boycotting, I'm now soaking up NPR again. And enjoying it. Local TV news is basically local people introducing tapes of national news. Our one general newspaper is also mostly wire services. Neighborhood blogs are good but our two local NPR affiliates really cover the local news better than most. And the rest of what NPR covers is more interesting than most. They will piss me off soon but for now, I'm enjoying it.

Biggie and I decided to cancel the new cat tree. I moved a scratching post to his window and added the bee and feathers. We'll find one that is both pretty and fun some day maybe.

It's nearly daylight and the birds sitting still look like the pods left on the tree and Biggie is studying them all carefully.

Once I get dressed, I'm off to the grocery store. I don't need much. But I'm getting low on eggs and that's serious biz. And I think I want a steak and some fries. So off I go.

Square (or it will be) number 3. I got about half of it done yesterday.

I heard some of NPR today, the national part. They had a segment that I did pick up 'Week in politics' in this case with Ron Elving. I have always loved this kind of segment on any show and this was perfect. Here is what is going on, here is what it might mean, this is what it probably means and this is what's next. And then on to the next news event. These always leave me wanting more, wanting that calm voice to analyze a bit more, a bit deeper but in the long run it is better wanting more than wanting less. NPR at its best.

When they interview people asking the same question over and over, giving the answer they want in part of the question, the 'when did you stop beating your wife' stuff that is just crap, I turn it off. And, of course, it is way more annoying since it is NPR and these are real journalists doing a crappy jot at the moment.

Never mind.

You know all that.

Conversely this morning I was listening and Ayesha Roscoe (https://www.npr.org/people/599484393/ayesha-rascoe) was talking and carrying the weight of most of the stories. I hate, hate, hate her voice and cadence and presentation. It is an age thing. And probably a race thing. But I hear that kind of voice all over and would like a respite while I listen to the news, please.

Sigh. And get off my lawn.

There was a NPR boycott?! I missed that. I'm a great one for boycotting — I don't think I've eaten grapes since the 70s...

I might be wrong, but I think Susan was referring to a personal boycott, not a national or regional one.

Sometimes I think it would be hilarious to hook up Biggie and my bird on Zoom, but I doubt either one of them has the awareness to look at the screen, much less the camera.
