At 4 this morning, Biggie found a paper bag and had his way with it for 30 minutes. I was almost back to sleep when the garbage truck came to dance with the giant metal dumpsters across the street. I gave up. And got up.

Now it is 8 and Biggie is asleep in the sewing room. I feel like taking his bag and going in there and wadding it up and kicking it around and tearing it up with my paws - oh wait.

No big deal. If I get sleepy later, I'll sleep. Otherwise, I know for sure I'll sleep good tonight.

This morning I paid my big bill of the year. My condo home owners dues. $7928.04 only I paid $7928.08 because apparently, I forgot the .04 last year. It may be more. They always wait until the last possible day to finish off the budget and so tell us what we owe. Fuck that. I'll pay last year's total and if they raise the dues, which I'm sure they will, I'll pay the difference then. I save all year long to pay next year's dues in a lump sum. It's all the same one way or another, but not having to think about it again til next December appeals to me. So done. Next up, beefing up my now anemic savings account. And the cycle starts again.

Today is Costco day and today's trip is steps and purchase. It's time to switch to the pricey Kerrygold butter. Honestly, I cannot tell the difference but Kerrygold is much easier to spread in the winter and, since this winter I am baking, it will be easier to whip into batters and dough. So butter and steps is today's goal.

This reminded me of how Abby once dug a potato chip bag out of a wastebasket and proceeded to get her head stuck inside of it. We watched her try to shake her head out of it for a couple minutes before I finally took it off of her. I think Seth has a video of it someplace.

I can't speak for cats but there are many horror stories online about dogs suffocating after sticking their heads into potato chip bags and not being able to get back out. No one in my dog group throws those bags away without cutting them open.

Many years ago when we had a cat, she found a paper bag on the dining room table that was just big enough for her to get her head into and just small enough so that she couldn't easily get it out again. We watched with growing amusement as she kept backing up trying to get out of it and eventually backed off the edge of the table. (She was unharmed, and of course was all "I meant to do that" afterwards.)

Irish butter tends to be softer, I think that has to do with the way they churn it.

I pay my homeowner's association dues monthly by automated withdrawal. Much easier not to have to think about it.

That is one huge bill to get, but I guess you expect it each year, whew!

That is great it covers so much. Yes with our house when I stop and think of our trash bill, our water bill and stuff, it all adds up!

Thanks for expanding on what that pays for. My immediate response was, 'that's more than my mortgage/taxes', but not apples to apples.

Those big bills definitely hit the savings account.

Kerrygold is pure butter though, right? Does it spread better from the fridge, or from room temp.

I can't speak for the US version, but here in the UK they have both a standard Kerrygold and a "spreadable" Kerrygold, which spreads straight from the fridge. (Well, pretty much — it's as close as you're ever going to get, anyhow.) It is still pure butter, though, unlike the vast majority of the "spreadable" offerings which are butter mixed with something or other (some type of oil, mostly). Not surprisingly it's more expensive, but it's what we tend to go with for day-to-day use, and then I buy block butter for baking and the like.
