Yesterday, and pretty much Saturday, too, Biggie sat on his heating pad all day long.

Today, he's way busier. Bird watching, hanging out, pooping and running at top speed and... helping me bake. As if it's not a big enough mess without his help!

I made ginger cookies. I had a note to not cook them as long and so I did not. It was a mistake. They taste great, they just need to snap more. I wanted to try out this new recipe for royal icing. It was very simple to make but OMG what a mess. However, I do like the results - the taste and the look. I just need a better method

Now I'm making bread old. I need stale bread to make some breakfast casseroles. So I'm dehydrating some slices. That should do it. Sausage, egg, cream, cheese and broken up stale bread. In the fridge overnight and into the oven in the morning for 30 mins. The bread is just about old enough now. I think I'll crumble up the sausage and assemble.

And then I'm taking the rest of the day off. Junk TV for me! Birds for Biggie. Scuse my butt.

A friend of mine puts royal icing in squeeze bottles, similar to what you'd see in a restaurant or at a picnic. She said they work great. Something like this:

Hilariously it's just such and item that got me in the mess. I picked up this kit at Goodwill.

And it was my first time using it. Moving icing from bowl to piping bag is easy but then I flail. This was the opposite. I need a way to get the icing into the squeeze bottles without getting it all over the kitchen. BUT I have a plan. Next time.

A possible alternative to stale bread: frozen tater tots! I've now made a big tater tot breakfast casserole (a couple of weeks ago) and a muffin tin of breakfast muffins (this morning) starting with two tater tots in the bottom of each muffin spot. I crisped the tater tots in the air fryer before using them.

I did nearly the same thing this morning!! but not tots... i used 1/2 of a potato cake as lining in a little dish topped with bacon and and egg/cream custard — topped with cheese. it was pretty damned good. i do love breakfast!

I was really happy with the spinach and surimi results. That was also the combo in the cream cheese blend I made for the homemade bagels last weekend.
