My parking lot snow mountain is still pretty mountainous. The immediate forecast calls for above freezing temps so it's future is pretty certain I would think.

I'm now hooked into the daily Wordle. But, I suck at it. There must be a trick that I haven't found yet. So it is currently my daily reminder that I suck.

Soon I will be able to add to that validation. Last Summer/Fall, my scale died. I was not at all sad about this and tossed it out like it was on fire. But, now I'm facing my annual checkup at the doctors in March and I know I've added to the bulk that is me. He will be so disappointed. I hate it when he's disappointed.

So I bought a new scale which is really stupid. The ONLY thing this purchase will do is confirm to me that I am a sad lump. I have no intention of reducing my caloric intake or ramping up my exercise. So what in the heck is the point beyond self flagellation? I have no idea. Happily it appears that the new scale is lost somewhere in a FedEx warehouse. The tracking number was last pinged a week ago.

Today I can finally take my garbage down to the dumpster. I'm quite excited about this. They finally came yesterday and emptied out everything so yeah.

Also today, I have two car errands. They are both near Home Depot and I should do a store walk but I'm just not feeling it. This is why I am a lump! But, whatever.

Biggie's favorite food has now hit supply chain issues. I ordered up a different kind and, of course, he hates it. Of course. Happily, he'll eat anything that has some of that topper stuff that you squeeze out. So we'll get through this case and keep looking for the venn intersect that is Food He Like/Food Available.

I finally added the last square to my 2021 temperature blanket yesterday and started the border.

Reading: The Four Winds - Kristin Hannah. My app says I've read 9% but apparently that's all I need to suck me in totally. It's not my usual read but it's a good one - at least the first 9%.

Watching: Yesterday, I watched more of Netflix's Stay Close. I'm also now sucked into it but it has so many plot twists and turns that binging would require dramamine. So I also started season 2 of Never Have I Ever. And on regular TV (remember I'm an oldie) I watched The Rookie.

Yeah, I lasted about four minutes on the daily Wordle. I'd rather learn a foreign language. My word from Merriam today fits my feelings about Wordie perfectly: antithetical. Thank you.

Yeah, I started Stay Close, too. It terrifies me. I really wish she'd stop going in dangerous places at night. Alone....

How quickly that snow pile disappears will also depend on how much direct sunlight it gets. Some of the ones that are in the shade seem to last forever.

Can the doctor actually do anything if he doesn't like the weight you are? (Does it have any medical insurance ramifications in the US?)

The US$64M question though would be how to incentivise people to lose weight. If someone discovers the answer to that it's probably more of a US$64 trillion answer.

I also struggled with today's Wordle (I tried it yesterday and couldn't even figure out how it worked 🤦‍♂️) but I've never been good with things like Scrabble.

There was a very popular game show in Holland called Lingo that basically uses the same concept as Wordle. The gameshow was much harder because if you missed a word then it went to another contestant, but even still there were a lot of popular words that contestants frequently went back to, especially as the opening guess. I think it's easier to play yourself, because you can start by firing out some words that contain multiple common letters similar to how you would play Hangman.

For instance you could do RATIO followed by UNCLE and now you have used all the vowels and 5 of the most common consonants without "wasting" a letter by repeating it - if you're lucky then some of them are already in the right spot. After that you can use a process of elimination similar to Mastermind to get the letters into the right spot, remembering to drop in an S somewhere early on (another very common consonant). Once you have a few letters sorted you can dump another random word that uses as many unused letters as possible just to reduce the pool of possibilities. By the end, hopefully, you are just solving an anagram from a fairly reasonable set of known letters.

What is up with FedEx these days? I ordered something on the 30th. Every time I check the tracking number my package is delayed another day.

I've never heard of Wordle. Maybe that's a good thing, I already have the Words with Friends app and another word game app, I forget what it's called.

How nice of FedEx to delay that particular package. lol

Will you post a pic of the blanket when it's all done? I saw a pic on Instagram, it's so neat!

I'm completely hooked on Stay Close too. I started it on Sunday and we were having a wind storm so the power kept flickering just enough to shut things off, always right when something was happening. I'm looking forward to the rest of it. There's another one done by the same people, I think it's called The Stranger, I liked that one too.

This is the second Harlan Coben that's been made in the UK. I wonder why.

I remember when Harlen Coben used to be on DL, back in the days when he was just a midlister with the Myron Bolitar series. He got off the list pretty fast when he hit it big, like others including Ian Rankin. Can't really blame them for using the list as a marketing tool I guess, but nevertheless I preferred the people who hung around even after they got famous.
